Let’s meet one of our awesome volunteers, who co-leads the ATD-GTC Communities of Practice (with Kathy Gargano)! Name: Chelsie Sturm, M.S. Title: Learning and Development Manager Organization: Boston Scientific Q. What do you like most about your job?  A. I love that I get to work on both onboarding and career development of our team. I truly enjoy helping people learn new things and/or uncover strengths that they didn’t know they had. Q. Outside of work, what are you best known for?  A. I am MOM 😊  I have two boys (ages 6 and 10)  and am in my “ sports mom” era. We run from sporting event to sporting event, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love watching them do what they love. Q. Why did you decide to join ATD-GTC and even more, become a volunteer? A. I joined as I transitioned my career from recruiting to learning and development. My manager told me about this group and when I joined, [chapter President] Mary Rapaport encouraged me to volunteer. It’s been so great to get to know many like-minded people across the Twin Cities area. Q. Do you have a favorite ATD event? COPs, Transforming Learning, Learning Labs, social events, the national conference, etc.? A. I’m not sure that I have a favorite; I truly get something out of every event that I attend that ATD puts on. No experience is wasted, and everything has meaning with this group! 🏌️♂️As we gear up for our DAF 4th Annual Fall Golf Tournament, I’d love all of my golfer peeps to weigh in on a big decision for our fall 2024 event: Should we host it on a Thursday or Friday? During our charity golf tournament last year and the Spring Olympics this year, the Teengo Youth Empowerment Bingo game made a significant impact on the teens and young adults that came out, offering invaluable life lessons and connections with professionals from various industries they didn’t even know existed! To enhance our impact and empower our community further, we are moving the tournament from Saturday to a weekday - either Thursday or Friday. Your input would be greatly appreciated 🙏 Why the Change? - Maximize Teen Participation: Many adults and teens are busy with sports or activities on Saturdays. By moving to a weekday, we can involve more students from local schools to foster these industry connections & development opportunities. -Engaging Field Trips: Teens love field trips and this change allows us to connect with local schools, specifically targeting juniors and seniors who need career guidance, leadership development, & job opportunities to consider exploring. - Broader Opportunities: Teens can meet and network with a wide range of employers from various industries and colleges to expand their career literacy in a fun & memorable way - Enhanced Networking: Weekdays make it easier for business professionals to attend, helping build future talent pipelines for our employers. So, Thursday or Friday? While Friday may seem like a natural choice, your input is crucial to making this event impactful for teens and productive for our local employers. My goal is to make this the most memorable field trip for our future workforce and a valuable use of our existing employers’ time and support! We can undoubtedly create a tidal wave of positive change and capitalize on all of this explosive growth we are experiencing in the valley in more intentional, fun-filled ways!!
