In 2006, Ford was dealing with a tremendous lack of psychological safety. As Mulally illustrates in this video, this can lead to some major problems in an organization, where people are afraid to speak up for fear of being wrong, believing their job, their status, or their credibility may be at stake. Why is this such an issue? Problems go unaddressed, compound on each other, and can ultimately cause workplace injuries or even sink an entire corporation. So how do we fix it? Don't shoot the messenger, but instead tackle the problem directly. Help them find a solution, or direct them where they might find one. This is especially important for those in management or leadership positions. The best functioning teams will always have more known issues than the equivalent poor functioning team. As issues become acknowledged, they give direction for process or team improvement, allowing for better collaboration and better solutions to the issue at hand. There's an old cliche that illustrates this very well: "Two heads are better than one"

You’ll never believe what I just found out about Post-it Notes! 📑 Those sticky little notes were actually invented when scientist Spencer Silver failed to make a strong glue. The same thing happened with the pacemaker! Wilson Greatbatch's mistake with a circuit is what led to the creation of the pacemaker. Talk about turning failures into successes! 📓 I’ve got a story like that, too. A few years ago, I signed up for a Spanish class, thinking it would be an easy A, only to find out I had already placed out of it. I almost dropped it, but decided to stay in the class at the last minute. That decision changed my life. I developed a passion for the language and culture, traveled, made new friends and even considered a career opportunity abroad. These stories remind us that sometimes our biggest successes come from our so-called "failures." It’s all about perspective and perseverance. When faced with a setback, we can reframe it. Failures often come with grief and it’s important to offer yourself and others grace. Embrace your failures; learn from them and keep moving forward. ✨Your next "mistake" might just be the breakthrough you’ve been waiting for. What’s one of your recent failures that ended up being a success? #FailForward #EmbraceMistakes #SuccessThroughFailure #PersonalGrowth

CEO @ Ameriton Freight & Logistics | Supply Chain Consultant in Transportation Management | Inspirational Speaker
Honoring Black Innovators and Leaders in Transportation- Elijah McCoy I would like to introduce Elijah McCoy. Elijah was a 19th century African American inventor best known for inventing lubrication devices used to make train travel more efficient. The Inspiration: After studying the inefficiencies inherent in the existing system of oiling axles, McCoy invented a lubricating cup that distributed oil evenly over the engine's moving parts. He obtained a patent for this invention, which allowed trains to run continuously for long periods of time without pausing for maintenance. The How: His invention was a valve mechanism that could supply oil drop by drop to the moving parts of machinery. Although McCoy's achievements were recognized in his own time, his name did not appear on the majority of the products that he devised. Lacking the capital with which to manufacture his lubricators in large numbers, he typically assigned his patent rights to his employers or sold them to investors. In 1920, toward the end of his life, McCoy formed the Elijah McCoy Manufacturing Company to produce lubricators bearing his name. #freight #experience #analytics #supplychain #supplychainmanagement #supplychainsolutions #logisticscompany #logistics #shippers #imports #everythingfreight #smallbusiness #environmentalsustainability #environmentallyfriendly #sustainability #oceanfreight
