Kids do better when they can. So instead of punishing them, let's help them do better! This group program is oldie but a goodie: FisT, Feeling is Thinking, is an eight-week group work program that focuses on working with children who experience difficulties in their interpersonal relationships, and in expressing their strong feelings, in particular anger, sadness, and frustration. These children often resort to violence as a way to handle and gain a sense of control over conflict situations, and are usually labeled by their school community, and especially their peers, as ‘bullies’. Once these aggressive behaviors are explored and unpacked, it is often discovered that the children are very sad, frightened, and lonely, and do not know how to handle difficult situations in more positive ways. The Feeling is Thinking program provides these children with a number of more appropriate, positive strategies to deal with conflict, and allows them to practice using such strategies in a safe environment. There are around 80 pages here including how to select group members, detailed session plans, resources to print, and everything else you need to implement the program in your setting. And it's free! I love finding and sharing free resources 😍 PDF Link: https://lnkd.in/g5H64ER3

Do children pay the price for not being compelled to stay in a community and learn to manage relationships? What is a community? A group of people shares a common value system. These days, it is hard to find a family with a common value system. Children witness adults throwing away the relationships due to trivial conflicts, issues and misunderstandings. It reflects adults' inability to manage themselves, their emotions and their relationships. Children start to believe that managing real relationships is complex. Such beliefs will further push them towards virtual relationships that demand no commitment. They can enter and exit with a click of a button. As a result, children are made to gain knowledge in a classroom about managing emotions, empathy, kindness, compassion, fairness, give-and-take, caring, transparency, honesty, belongingness and social responsibility. Are we not replacing the real learning environment with an artificial learning environment? Does it lead to understanding and bring any changes? Change is possible if we act together. #letsexplore

Are you familiar with SPACE? It's an acronym for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions, a program developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at Yale Child Study Center, designed to treat anxiety, OCD, and related issues in children and adolescents. In SPACE, parents are the primary participants, learning skills to support their anxious child without requiring the child's attendance at sessions, ultimately aiming to reduce anxiety and improve functioning post-treatment. This approach targets various anxiety problems like separation anxiety, social anxiety, and OCD, emphasizing changes in parental behavior rather than directly altering the child's actions. This method can be powerful when children themselves aren't willing to participate in treatment, or when parents want an active hand in learning skills to manage anxious behaviors at home.
