I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2002, and the conventional wisdom of the early 2000s (I would say it’s even still the case today) was that high-fiber foods had too much “roughage” and couldn’t possibly be good for someone with IBD. Now, if someone has very severe inflammation or strictures due to their IBD, in these cases, eating large amounts of fibrous material isn’t necessarily a good idea. However - assuming no strictures or inflammation are present, or they’re mild if they are, and you’ve reached a significant level of healing in your gut - fiber is one of the best tools for achieving and maintaining remission, and bringing your gut microbiome back into balance. If you are going to add more fiber to your diet, start off with small amounts, then build up from there. There are also ways to make high-fiber foods more digestible, such as soaking legumes or peeling fruits and vegetables. And, if there are any concerns, you can always speak to your doctor to figure out how to proceed with safely adding more fiber to your diet. Here’s an excellent read on the subject: https://lnkd.in/gHAtgsqY. #worldibdday #worldibdday2024 #ibdawareness #crohnsawareness #ulcerativecolitisawareness #crohnsdisease #ulcerativecolitis #education #cureibd #livingwithcrohns #livingwithibd #fiber #guthealth #healthygutkitchen
