Meet Charlie, a sweet pup who arrived at the shelter as a stray with a limp on one of her legs. She's looking for a caring home where she can receive the extra attention she needs to recover. EXAM: ATTITUDE: bright, interactive, sweet CARD: no murmurs auscultated RESP: bilaterally clear, nares clean EYES: clean, quiet EARS: clean, quiet ORAL: puppy dentition LN: all peripheral LN are soft, small symmeterical INT: laceration on medial aspect of right axilla (dry with fresh scab), healed/mature scab on medial aspect of right carpus ABD: soft, non-reactive to palp, normal M/S: BCS 5/9, right elbow is mildly swollen compared to left elbow, gait eval: patient will bear weight on front right, but intermittently knuckles paw and will swing leg outwards when walking forwards. At time of rads, patient screaming when attempted to get lateral view per victoria. NEURO: intermittent knuckling, possible ataxia of front right RADS: VD views: no fractures noted, and visible growth plates seemed symmetrical to left. No lateral view PROBLEMS: -front right lameness- soft tissue, nerve damage, fracture of growth plate with no displacement - front right axilla- mild laceration PLAN: prognosis: good Unsure of exact issue, but soft tissue will resolve given time and rest, and nerve damage may resolve given time and rest. At this time, fracture low likelihood. Patient has improved a bit since yesterday. Will continue pain medications. Patient will not allow clip and clean of small laceration. SHELTER OBSERVATION On 5/9/24 Tried to chew through leash. wags tail very friendly likes to give kisses On 3/19/24 Suck a funny little guy, has webbed feet like a duck, runs so cute and funny like his feet are too heavy, loves to suckle on a stuffie toy its very cute, loves treats, sweet puppy. On 3/11/24 When I entered the kennel, Laird licked my hand. His tail was wagging, liked cuddles. VOLUNTEER OBSERVATION On 5/18/24 High Energy Mouthy Wants to Run On 3/16/24 Timid Ducky is a timid little pup! He warms up when he’s around you. His tail wags when outside and when around other dogs. He just needs to go to a loving home! On 3/10/24 High Energy He was very happy to see me, jumped on the kennel gate, his tail was wagging enthusiastically. Stu is a handsome pup who was found running loose in traffic along with his buddy Loomis on 6/9. Stu and Loomis must really be missing their home, because this duo is quite fearful and nervous here in the shelter environment. During a medical intake exam, Stu was found to be significantly underweight, weighing just 37 pounds. Stu has made small steps during his shelter stay to open up to new people, allowing gentle handling, soliciting some attention, and enjoying outdoor activity time too. Stu has also met several other dogs and has excelled in their company, showing friendly and social behavior! Unfortunately, due to Stu's fear and anxiety in the shelter, he is in urgent need of placement so he can gain confidence, decompress, and get back to a healthy weight. Stu would greatly benefit from the loving care of a rescue organization to give him a fresh start; Stu is also available to experienced adopters with the capacity to provide behavioral support. Stu must have placement with a rescue or experienced adopter by Sunday, June 16th at 10am. Staff noted on 6/11: Stu went outside for activity time today. When I approached Stu's kennel he was laying in his bed and looked up at me when I called for him. I talked to him in a baby voice to loosen him up and he slowly walked over, stretched out and sniffed me through the kennel door. I opened the door and let him sniff the leash and he immediately backed up and only came over once I bent down. Stu was able to be slowly leashed from chin to ears and walked through the kennels even slower. Once we were outside we walked at his pace and eventually made it to the yard. Ferry came to the shelter due to a suspected cruelty investigation. The investigation has concluded and is now eligible for adoption or rescue placement. Exam- Vet SAC 06/20/2024 6/20/24 ADDENDUM: Ferry was holding up the right hind limb today while standing in the kennel. This is the same limb with the fresh wound on the medial aspect of the tarsus; however, the wound is in the early stages of healing. Ferry is ambulatory, and will place weight on the limb while walking, but she will hold it up when standing. Abnormalities are not palpated on the right hind limb, and in comparison, the popliteal lymph nodes are only slightly more prominent on the right compared to the left. Manipulation of the limb was possible without evidence of visible pain; however, when the left hind limb was examined, she did not want to place her full weight on the right hind limb. A recheck of this limb will occur next Wednesday on 6/26/24, after she has received Gabapentin to address any pain associated with the limb. Additionally, the subcutaneous mass on the medial aspect of the left hind limb was aspirated with only peripheral blood visible, without evidence of a neoplastic or infectious disease. This mass will be monitored and respirated. Recheck Examination 06/26/2024: The anemia has resolved, with elevated reticulocytes at 132 K/uL, which indicates the anemia was regenerative. The white blood cell count is elevated at 17.98 K/u:, with elevated neutrophils 12.03 K/uL, monocytes 1.3 K/uL, and basophils 0.12 K/uL, which suggests an inflammatory or stress leukogram. Patient is BAR without a visible limp, and the skin lesions are healing properly. While breaking up a dog fight, a citizen was accidentally injured by Chapo. Medical: 9/12 Presented for hair loss on body PE: BAR. MM=Pink. CRT <2 Secs. Heart and lungs normal. Hair loss over top of hip area, lumbar back and down tail. Wart like growths present. Both ear canals are inflamed with green waxy debris. Wanted to be left alone and mostly sniffed around the yard and did his own thing . Was a hall monitor with the others play as when the others would run around near him, he got agitated and ran up to correct playful dogs.
