Are you following what the Washington Commanders are doing? If you are a stakeholder in business, leadership, law, finance, sports or content, you should be. Here’s why…
Washington’s franchise is a part of the fabric of the NFL. It was established in 1932, has millions of fans worldwide, is rich in tradition and plays in a high-profile division (NFC East).
At the same time, the franchise is currently undergoing a transformative change. It is rare, perhaps unprecedented, to see such a foundational brand under the umbrella of such a successful entity (NFL) do this.
The franchise rebranded. Then, it was sold to a new owner. Consequently, there were changes at every level of the organization, from the front office and business operations to the coaching and scouting staffs and, of course, a lot of the roster. The Commanders even recently used the No. 2 overall pick on a new quarterback – Jayden Daniels.
As a 15-year veteran of the Minnesota Vikings where I diligently worked on the marketing side of the business while (gladly) prioritizing the interests of the football operation, I take great interest in, and am acutely aware of the challenges and opportunities that must define, Washington’s current quest.
A great place to start following this is with Commanders Senior Vice President, Chief Partnerships Officer Jim Rushton, who is experienced in helping franchises with significant transition and who is active here on LinkedIn.
Bravo, so far, to the Commanders as they navigate such a significant change to such a proud organization!
