There is a risk that your employees may say or do something on social media that damages your business’s reputation. Managing this correctly is becoming increasingly more difficult, even for big organisations like the BBC. Remember just last year, when Gary Lineker landed in hot water for comments he made on social media? Lineker was asked to step down from his duties, which resulted in an uproar, with many of his colleagues also temporarily standing down from their roles in solidarity. The BBC were forced to conduct a robust review of their strict social media policy. In the end, the policy was made more transparent and relaxed slightly, agreeing that their employees would be allowed to express their views and opinions, but would not allow any form of bigotry or political campaigning. The lesson learnt here is that it is important to figure out how to balance your employees' rights to freedom of speech with your duty to protect your business’ reputation. If I can help you with implementing a social media policy to protect your business and employees, get in touch. #socialmedia #policies #business #employeeexperience
