We need to explore alternative pathways to simplify the process for individuals transitioning from industry to obtain teaching certification. Trade education is important to start ASAP. It is NEVER too late to learn in times when common trade knowledge is obsolete.

The attention to detail being practiced is astonishing. This is what translates to great work ethic.

There is honor in all work. Especially when performed with excellence

"Not everyone has the aptitude or desire to be an engineer, doctor, lawyer, etc." Huh? Most lawyers, doctors, and even engineers don't have the aptitude to do any of what my friends call "real jobs." There is an unfortunate prejudice in our society against people that work with their hands, and thinking goes that these people "can't" have the same job that you have, when in reality most of them *won't* settle for sitting in a cubicle under florescent lights all day moving bits of information around in a job that, as they say, "doesn't do anything." Think about the jobs you fantasized about as a child. Did any of them involve wearing a tie, spending the whole day inside, losing bits of your soul? Little kids have know what success looks like, and that gets perverted over our lifetime into pursuing the most insignificant marker of success that only wins out because it is the most measurable: money. When my friend was finishing her 5th advanced degree she was in a panic worried that she wouldn't be able to find a job. I remember her telling me about this and then calming down when she realized "Oh yeah, I have skills." What did she mean by "having skills" she had built her own house and made a lot of beautiful furniture. If that's skills, what did her degrees mean to her? Perhaps not much as she left her latest engineering position at a university, and is building another house in the woods. Brunno had the right idea in his original post: there are many kinds of education, and one is not better than the other. We as a society have put in a lot of work to avoid doing real work, only to discover that the real work was more enjoyable, useful, and fulfilling.

Many people have the preconceived idea that the skilled trades don't offer competitive wages. In fact, these blue collar jobs can pay just as much or more than jobs that are traditionally thought of as well-paying. It might help to have some examples handy to prove your point, as your child may be more willing to believe actual statistical data than just what Mom or Dad tells them.
