Road safety starts with all of us and can affect all of us. Roads Australia recently held national workshops to flesh out ideas on how to reduce road trauma. Check out the report below, we can all play our part in this important issue. #roadsafety #roadtrauma #roadsaustralia
At Roads Australia’s ‘Accelerating Australia’s road safety goals’ national workshop, over 100 participants from 40 public and private sector organisations contributed their ideas on reducing road trauma. Our attendees were safety experts representing a cross-section of sectors that help design and build our cities and infrastructure in ways to improve safety on our roads – spanning engineering, construction, government and research disciplines. To understand the three key takeaways discussed by our group, the report is available on our website: https://lnkd.in/g5GuM2T2 Roads Australia also thanks Transurban for sharing their experts Nicole Green and Liz Waller and hosting our in-person attendees at their board rooms across the east coast for these sessions. Likewise, thank you to GHD’s Aimee Wescombe and Monash University’s Michael Fitzharris for their contributions. We look forward to working with you both on improving safety across Australia’s roads.

It was great to join DDC Commissioner Thomas Foley, P.E., and DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez this morning at New York Building Congress panel and share all the ways we’re building a stronger, safer, more resilient future. Thank you Carlo Scissura for the opportunity to share the role and remit of the public realm team at City Hall. To recap, we are focused on doing 3 things: 1. Hardware - Advancing transformative public space projects to make sure they happen on time and on budget. From Fifth Avenue and Broadway Vision to Chinatown Connections and Queensway, we support capital agencies to get them decisions they need to keep projects moving. 2. Software - Creating vibrant public spaces is not just about building new. The real secret sauce is maintenance and programming which can transform the smallest unassuming spaces into something wonderful. Cities need partners to help us do that maintainance and activation work, but we don’t always make it easy for partners. How do we make it easier for partners to do this work in our public spaces? 3. Orgware - Many agencies have various jurisdictions over public spaces. How can city agencies better coordinate their policies, rules, regulations, and plans in a comprehensive way that is easier to understand for people to understand and navigate? To learn more about our work check out www.nyc.gov/publicrealm
We’re off & running at our Construction Industry Breakfast with our panel of DDC Commissioner Tom Foley, Chief Public Realm Officer Ya-Ting Liu & DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. It’s going to be a lively conversation about collaboration & innovation. Many thanks to our co-hosts Bravo & STV.

For our 5th Fire Compliance in Healthcare Estates, we headed North and across the border into Scotland where our Glasgow session was very well attended by Project Managers and NHS Scotland. Discussions involved an overview of the past 4 roundtables, with unsurprisingly many similar challenges encountered. Emerging as a new theme was the consideration of our buildings In Use. Notwithstanding the input during Strategy, Design and Build, how we manage our buildings in operation is as important. Topics covered included residual risk, manuals for understanding, hand-over training and simulation, responsible maintenance and greater awareness within clinical teams of how changes in use can affect the building safety. We ended our conversation with the desire to escalate our discussion to a higher level of governance, and to follow up in a year's time to review progress. So ✨Watch This Space ✨because we at HLM Architects Wates Group and OFR Consultants are entirely aligned with that thinking. Massive thanks to Melanie Morris, Katrina Simpson Bonnie Chu Ryan Sylvester Material Source
