Across the globe, efforts are being made to address the issue of climate change. One example of this can be found in South America’s high Andes, with the reforestation initiative called Acción Andina. This grassroots project, coordinated by One Tree Planted and Global Forest Generation, is the first multi-country, large-scale initiative to re-plant the tress in the high-altitude native forests of the region. Rising temperatures. Intensified natural disasters. Biodiversity loss. Climate change has only increased these phenomena over the years. To foster resilience to these challenges, AKF's GROW initiative is working with environmentally-reliant communities to grow micro-forests. This Earth Day, learn more about what micro-forests are and how they benefit local communities: https://ow.ly/q81c50RlnbA

We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land. Ecosystems around the world are reaching a tipping point. From forests and farmlands to lakes and drylands, the natural spaces we depend on are under threat. Globally, more than 2 billion hectares of land are degraded, and every year, an estimated 12 million hectares are lost to degradation, impacting food and water supplies across the globe. This #WorldEnvironmentDay, the message is clear: we must restore ecosystems to tackle climate change, save species from extinction, and secure our future. Will you join #GenerationRestoration? 🌍 Act now: https://lnkd.in/gUEwre3

🌍✨ Sustaining Our Future: The Role of Pastoralism in Mitigating Climate Change ✨🌍 In the face of climate change, pastoralism stands as a beacon of sustainability. Pastoralists have long adapted to the shifting climates, utilizing their deep knowledge of the land to maintain balance in ecosystems. 🐄🌱 🌿 Why Pastoralism Matters: Resilience: Pastoralists' traditional practices build resilience against climate shocks. Biodiversity: They help preserve biodiversity by maintaining diverse grazing lands. Sustainable Use: Rotational grazing prevents overgrazing, maintaining soil health and reducing carbon footprints. ✨ Let's honor and support pastoral communities in their efforts to protect our planet. Their wisdom and sustainable practices are crucial in our fight against climate change. 🔗 Learn more and get involved: www.essfkenya.org #Sustainability #ClimateChange #Pastoralism #EcoFriendly #GreenFuture #SupportLocalCommunities #Biodiversity #ClimateAction

🌍 Climate change and human activities are hastening the destruction of our planet's biodiversity. Our planet is in peril, and Mother Earth is urging us to take action. On Mother Earth Day, let's take a moment to reflect on the importance of our ecosystems. They are not just environments; they are the foundations of life. Restoring our damaged lands and waters is more than an environmental act—it's a step towards fighting poverty, tackling climate change, and avoiding the devastating loss of species 🌊🌳 We all have a role to play. Let's join together in this effort, mindful that our actions today will shape the Earth our children will share. #MotherEarthDay #EcosystemRestoration #ClimateAction #ProtectOurPlanet #ForSeaSolutions

Climate change is already being felt by everyone across the Andes. The scariest part? Water security! With warming temperatures and melting glaciers, the lakes are shrinking the watersheds are drying up and the crops are collapsing. It’s time to take action. So we are! By restoring Polylepis forests and their ecosystems in the High Andes. Working in partnership with Acción Andina, ECOAN, Global Forest Generation and the local communities we’re planting the mighty Polylepis tree, which hits climate change where it hurts! Are you and your business ready to restore the planet? Now’s the time to jump in! Just £1 plants 1 Tree. #generationrestoration #sustainability #greenbusiness #greenfuture #climateaction Video credit: UNEP / UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

At Sustainability in Focus we love and support this years World Environment Day theme #GenerationRestoration. It's disturbing to think of the impacts of desertification, and that as a species, we humans still cause the extinction of other species. Let that sink in! Restoration is important and achieves the following: 🌍 Restoration boosts livelihoods, lowers poverty and builds resilience to extreme weather. 🌎 Restoration increases carbon storage and slows climate change. 🌏 Restoring just 15 per cent of land and halting further conversion could avoid up to 60 per cent of expected species extinctions. Today is Earth Overshoot Day, marking the point when humanity’s resource demand exceeds Earth’s capacity to regenerate. This year, it falls on August 1st, highlighting that we are using nature 1.7 times faster than it can replenish. This overuse leads to deforestation, soil erosion, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Let’s work together to push this date later in the year. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dWu7xwVF.

It is World #Environment Day! The global annual #celebration to raise awareness about the pressing threats to our planet's #ecosystems takes place today, June 5th. Let us collaborate to plant trees in order to preserve and revitalise #ecosystems. An essential first step in halting erosion, desertification, and #climate change is planting trees.
