We are pleased to announce the release of a new IOGP position paper, written by IOGP’s Geomatics Committee. 'IOGP P2/11 positioning data exchange format – technical specification' Seismic data provides a fundamental input to exploration, appraisal, and production decisions, minimizing risk, optimizing well locations, and managing reservoirs through 4D technology. A component essential to the value of this data is location. The IOGP P-formats provide specifications for the exchange of the navigation and position data from a geophysical survey. IOGP recently released version 2.0 of the P1/11 data exchange format (IOGP Report 483-1), which addresses the final, processed position data. IOGP is now releasing version 2.0 of the P2/11, the format for the exchange of raw navigation observations and measurements, from which the final position data of the P1/11 is ultimately derived. The latest release accounts for technical advances in seismic acquisition and positioning and aligns the format with the contemporary approach to geodetic definition, compliant with the current EPSG Dataset. We are delighted to announce the release of an updated IOGP Report, written by the Geomatics Committee. IOGP Report 483-6 - IOGP P6/11 Seismic bin grid data exchange format – technical specification Seismic data provides a fundamental input to exploration, appraisal, and production decisions, minimizing risk, optimizing well locations, and managing reservoirs through 4D technology. The IOGP P6/11 format is used industry-wide to provide the geodetic definition and geometry of the binning grid on which a 3D seismic survey is based. With seismic survey costs reaching hundreds of millions of dollars, and positioning elements contributing some 25% of this cost, maintaining spatial integrity is critical to safeguarding the value of the seismic data. This specification provides that safeguard through a highly structured tool for delivery and semi-automated quality control. This new version integrates industry experience and innovation from recent years and aligns the format with the latest advances in geodesy. An accurate imaging of the subsurface conditions is an important prerequisite for the planning and development of offshore wind farms (OWF). Safety, of course, is paramount. All the people who go out on the vessel have undergone sea survival training beforehand. In the upcoming weeks geophysical data will be acquired. IWES is in charge of the acquisition, processing and preliminary interpretation of Ultra-High Resolution Multichannel Seismic data. An overview of marine seismic operations The Report provides an overview of marine seismic operations. Seismic surveying is commonly used in the industry for both exploration and monitoring of producing fields. The same seismic principles also apply to offshore CO2 storage projects. The Report aims to provide a common ground for operator(s), local regulatory bodies, or public stakeholders on understanding the methods, technology and terminology used for marine seismic operations. Having that common understanding should enable stakeholders to assess which technology and method to use for their need. It shall also provide the necessary basic understanding when discussing impact of marine seismic operations on the environment, and potential mitigation measures to reduce the impact to a minimum level. The scope and focus of this Report are on 2D and 3D towed marine seismic, seabed seismic, time lapse seismic, vertical seismic profiling, transition zone acquisition, and the different technologies involved with these methods. As demand grows for enhanced seismic image resolution, traditional technology like cabled geophones or costly nodes fall short in delivering affordable high-density seismic data. "This reinforces the belief that single sensor nodes present the optimal solution, streamlining survey processes, reducing health, safety, and environmental risks, and redefining crew logistics so that the field crews can roll more spread and shoot the surveys faster and cheaper. "Compressive sensing emerged as another potential solution, offering efficient signal reconstruction from sparse data, potentially halving survey costs by minimising source and receiver spread."
