When we began offering baking workshops in a local women’s hostel 10 years ago, we never envisioned evolving into a multi-site bakery operation that supports hundreds of disadvantaged women annually. Together, we have built something truly special 🌙 #EmpowermentNeverTastedSoSweet #LuminaryBakery #BakeADifference #purchasewithpurpose

Hey there generous souls 🌟 The Women In Need pantry is feeling a little "hangry" lately 🥫 so let's give it the boost it deserves! Now, we all know that no contribution is too small when it comes to making a difference, right 🤔 Whether you have a couple of cans of veggies or a whole shelf full of goodies, every little bit counts 😉 So let's rally together and sprinkle some kindness into those empty shelves. Think about it – with just a few items, you can help transform those bare shelves into a cornucopia of deliciousness 🛒 And hey, who doesn't love a good grocery shopping spree? So raid your kitchen cabinets, raid your neighbor's kitchen cabinets (well, maybe ask first), or simply pick up an extra item during your next grocery run 🤩 Together, we can restore balance to the pantry universe and put smiles on the faces of those in need. Remember, whether it's a can of soup or a jar of peanut butter, every item you contribute adds up to create a big impact 🥰 Plus, think of the joy you'll feel knowing that you've helped fill those bellies with nourishing meals 😇 Trust us, it's the most satisfying feeling ever! Let's prove that generosity knows no bounds and make sure the Women In Need pantry is overflowing with goodness once again 🥫 Together, we've got this 💪 So let's show them what we're made of and restock that pantry like champions. Thank you for being amazing and making this world a better place, one can at a time 🎉 Let's get this restocking party started! #noblebarnes #rockwallcounty #WIN #womeninneed #Every1KnowsSome1 #bethechange #breakthesilence

I believe women involvement in clean cooking is vital. In our African society, the woman is the 'owner' of the kitchen. Right from fetching firewood to cooking. The amount of smoke they inhale is intense. Women can be the biggest innovators when it comes to offering clean cooking solutions. They should be involved more. #cleanenergy #renewableenergy

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐲! A day to think about gender equality in all its forms. In light of this I'm resharing this working paper on gender in urban food systems I contributed to in my previous job at Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). Our rapid review demonstrates how gender norms constrain livelihood activities for women at the personal level and also influence formal food systems policies, and the importance of integrating a gender lens into governance. https://lnkd.in/e_aHpkmz

@Heifer International attended #DialogueNEXTdc on March 26, a global discussion orchestrated by the @World Food Prize Foundation that emphasized the indispensable role of women in propelling agricultural innovation and growth. At this event, experts gathered to exchange ideas, challenges and practical solutions to tear down gender biases in the agrifood landscape. Recognizing the critical role of women smallholder farmers, we affirm that advancing our global food system is impossible without their contributions. A sustainable future relies on our collective dedication to prioritize gender equality as a key pillar that drives and shapes our path forward. As we approach the mid-point of the SDGs period, data show that the world is not on track to achieve key targets as per SDG 6 aiming to ‘ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all’. What is more, the progress on drinking water, sanitation and hygiene is crucial to achieve SDG 5, which aims to ‘realize gender equality and empower all women and girls’. Likewise, gender inequalities impede realization of the SDG 6 targets on WASH, which points out how the two goals are tightly connected to one another and require coordinated actions to be fully achieved. #WASH #water #gender #SDG5 #SDG6 #humanitarian https://lnkd.in/eCe3ztra

Why Keep a Dog When You Can Bark Yourself? Modern Feminism, particularly its challenging of traditional female roles in society, is yet to take a decent foothold among #KenyanWomen, it would appear. Overall, 66% prefer to personally undertake household cooking duties, a trend most prominent in the low-income classes, and gradually diminishing in the mid-and high-income groups. More women, therefore, are cooking themselves, with house-help cooking restricted to high-income households. And what about those not inclined to cook? 37% buy and consume ready-to-eat food from out-of-home at least once a week, particularly the singles, the non-parents, and the high-incomes. As you may recall from elsewhere in our research, these are the same groups that responded “Better!” when we asked, “Compared to last year, is your life generally worse, the same, or better?” Lanes, people! t.ly/8aQRR #DamaStudy #DamaSurvey

We’re on a mission! In fact, our Guiding Principles keep us focused on what we mean to do. We aim to disrupt the current cycle that prevails in our industry to drive equality as we recognize we are part of a system that wasn't designed with our success in mind. Our alliance is set on changing this culture with companies, associations and the industry as a whole. During #womenshistorymonth, we reflect on the ways women have disrupted the status quo in foodservice, and the ways they’ve used foodservice to disrupt the world. 💪🏽 We are focused on empowering all women to gain autonomy over their own Foodservice career growth. We remember Joyce Chen, who came to America in 1949 and revolutionized foodservice by introducing and popularizing Chinese food. When her contribution to her kids’ bake sale turned out to be in high demand, she wrote a cookbook, launched a restaurant chain, TV show and sauce company. We remember Elsie Widdowson, a chemist, dietitian and nutritionist who researched childhood diets and development. During World War II, she studies the effects of the severe rationing of food in England, and found many people needed calcium supplements. She was the first to advocate for fortifying food with vitamins and minerals, changing food production forever. 💪🏿 We are a community built with the understanding of the complexity intersectionality has in impacting women. We remember Georgia Gilmore, who organized women across Montgomery, AL to make and sell food door-to-door, at beauty salons and cab stands, to fund alternative transportation during the Montgomery Bus Boycotts in 1955-56. She used foodservice to improve the world not only for Black women like herself, and not only for Black people in general, but for everyone. We remember Jessie Lopez de la Cruz, the first female recruiter for the United Farm Workers and its top recruiter. She fought for worker safety and against corruption and abuse, even inside the UFW itself. She advocated for women in positions of leadership inside the organization and at the head of the value chain, in food production. Join us (it’s free) as we empower women to continue disrupting the status quo and changing foodservice – and our culture -- for the better.
