We are currently in the early stages of considering the potential of combined art therapy groups for parents and children next year. The ongoing research in this field is progressively unveiling substantial benefits and future prospects. Existing studies have revealed notable outcomes, which include: Enhanced relationships and attachments between family members Increased playful interactions, leading to heightened responsiveness from parents. Attuned Interactions & feeling more connected. Improved parental well-being & confidence in meeting their child's needs. We are deeply committed to understanding the potential impact on family dynamics, as well as perinatal and postnatal mental health. We value the insights and experiences of our professional network. Art therapy is not glorified art and craft making. It is a person-centre mental health profession integrating art making, creative processes, psychological theories and counselling to improve the wellbeing of individuals and communities. Art therapy draws from theoretical foundations across numerous disciplines. For example, psychology, neuroscience, attachment theory, child developmental theories, art material properties, couselling and more. Art therapy practices are supported by evidenced-based research. In Australia, an art therapist must have a master-level degree in art therapy (or equivalent creative therapy degrees), which includes 750 hours of clinical placement. The art therapy profession is governed by professional bodies such as ANZACATA, ACA and PACFA. #wellbeing #arttherapy #mentalhealth

One year into the pilot, the findings show a consistent, positive impact on nearly all indicators, including practice development, sectoral retention, and well-being. The BIA payments have also reduced deprivation rates among recipients. Artists receiving the basic income are dedicating more time to their art each week, spending less time working in other sectors, and are more likely to sustain themselves through their art alone. #mentalhealth #arttherapy Sharing this handmade table lamp, one of my masterpiece which I made in collaboration with Autism therapy and behaviours learning centre in Dar es salaam. This was made with 70% recycled materials. My observation during this project was that many individuals who struggled with concentration and anxiety in classroom set ups enjoyed involving themselves in art sessions more. They were calmer during art sessions, they trusted their ideas while crafting more, Their trust in themselves was boosted and self esteem also boosted, they felt free to explore with materials and came up with their own art (self expressive art), their interaction with their peers and teachers also improved. 1.Making art activates reward pathways in the brain. 2.Reduces stress. 3. Lowers anxiety levels and improves mood. 4. It can help reduce pain and improve sense of control over someone's life. 5. Boosts self esteem. 6. Boosts creativity. Making art as a form of therapy dates back to the mid-20th century, when soldiers returning from the battlefields of World War II were left with a condition that was known as “shell shock,” now called PTSD. Veterans made different forms of art to help process what they’d witnessed and experienced at war because they struggled with other therapeutically interventions. Please note that Art therapy isn’t a cure-all and it may not be the right approach for everyone, it often works well as a complement to other traditional therapies.

THE MOST POWERFUL THERAPY IS HUMAN LOVE Dr Bruce Perry (author of "The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog") emphasises how chronic stress or trauma can significantly impact the foundation of brain architecture for a child, and the quality of relationships around a child determines the future. The quality of relationships isn't confined to what a child receives from the parents. It is also extended to the quality of relationships the parents receive to support their needs. It's simply because PARENTS AND CHILD EVOLVE ALONGSIDE EACH OTHER. When parents and child are supported with space that encourages their TOGETHERNESS, and empowers their INTUITIVE KNOWING, they will THRIVE TOGETHER HOLISTICALLY and HEARTILY. THE HUMAN LOVE DOESN'T EMANATE FROM THE PARENTS ALONE, BUT MUST BE EXTENDED FROM A SOCIETY THAT EMPOWERS THEM. Don't you think so? I'd love to hear your thoughts and feelings. These are key components of our awareness campaign this year. Call to Action for Artists and Authors: We are looking for talented artists and writers of color to join us in shedding light on the multifaceted experiences of Black motherhood.
