Empowering women in Africa’s mining industry! Discover the thoughts of Carla Clamp of BDO South Africa as she examines the challenges holding women back in the continent’s mining industry and why it is imperative to identify and remove such barriers. “There is a whole lot of untapped potential in women that could be miners that is currently not being assessed or utilised. Given the opportunity, these women could make a huge difference in the industry and can join the ranks of the several women change-makers that have been in the industry.” A the upcoming Investing in African Mining Indaba conference Clamp advised attendees and participants to keep this vital topic in mind throughout each discussion in this year’s agenda: “It is imperative that we maintain the focus of removing the barriers that keep women from shining and reaching their highest potential in an industry that has been historically male-dominated.” Discover the full interview at: https://lnkd.in/eERHV9Hu #MiningIndaba #WomenInMining #WomenEmpowerment #AfricaMining #WomenInBusiness

As we celebrate the International Day of Women in Mining 2024, let's take a moment to consider the significance of this year's theme, 'I am mining and I belong.' We are excited to spotlight IWiM’s Advisory Council member Allison George, who shared: “When I think of ‘I am mining and I belong’, curiosity, intention, and representation are the three words that spring to mind. For me it is about all of this (we are mining and we belong)—I remain curious and intentional in this space. Mining is an exciting field that takes us on a journey through time—the story prior to extraction, the story of the material that has been extracted, or indeed the stories between human beings in relation to politics, socio-economics, trade, environment, collaboration, and conflict. It is closely interwoven with human history since the dawn of time. This has been my journey through the industry, incorporating many facets and enjoying the opportunity to learn and serve.” What does the #IDWIM2024 theme mean to you? We'd love to hear from you! Let us know in the comments or share your thoughts, stories, and experiences with us at celebrate@internationalwim.org. #IDWIM #InternationalDayofWomeninMining #IAmMiningAndIBelong #IAmMining #SoyMinería #JeSuisLactivitéMinière #SouMineração #WomenInMining #MiningIndustry

🌍 Empowering Women in Mining 🌟 : A Path to Leadership and Innovation The inaugural WiMSA Symposium was a powerful reminder of the need to transition from dialogue to action in supporting women in the mining industry. As Noleen Pauls, WiMSA board chairperson, emphasized, “We’ve come a long way... but we’re still talking about the same issues. This conference aims to change that by focusing on real solutions.” Dr. Nompumeleo Obokoh, CEO of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions, inspired attendees with her keynote address, highlighting the resilience and tenacity of women in mining: “We are the rocks, the unbreakable forces that shape the future... Let us commit to creating an industry where women are not just present but are leading, innovating, and transforming.” The discussions on career growth, understanding rights against gender-based violence, and the need for supportive structures like Thuthuzela Care Centres were crucial in shedding light on the challenges and opportunities ahead. It’s time for us to champion women’s access to leadership positions, where they can innovate and drive change. Let’s ensure that as we move forward, we rise together. Celebrating Women's Impact in Australian Mining for International Day of Women and Girls in Science In my role, I am grateful to be a woman who supports other women in the STEM industry, specifically engineering and mining. When I have the delight to speak with women who are out in the fields on rural mines in the scorching heat of Australia (my opinion as a Northerner), it truly is a testament not just to the drive of the women in this industry, but also how far the industry has come! The mining and resources industry is dynamic and ever-changing and women have been breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and reshaping the landscape of mining science in profound ways. When researching how I could help spread awareness and celebrate women paving the way in this field, I cam across this blog entirely dedicated to sharing stories of women in mining Australia. One such title stuck out, ‘Don’t feel constrained to the more ‘traditional’ female roles’. Being a mother of a 17-year-old daughter, it is days like this which I feel empowered to contribute to expanding the awareness of the more-than-ever diverse careers girls can achieve. It is so important for young girls and emerging women to have the freedom and flexibility to explore any avenue of interest which might birth into a life-long passion and journey. I am sure any fellow parent in my network would agree! Some of the women’s stories on this blog are truly inspirational and I would encourage my connexions to go and take a read! I would love to hear any fellow females in my network to share their own experiences in the industry! https://lnkd.in/gUfqukwn #miningaustralia #womeninstem #womeninmining #womeninengineering

As we wrap up our recent competition, Gubhani Exploration reflects on the outcome. Our goal was to provide a platform for a woman-owned business to showcase at the Electra Mining Trade Show. Despite our efforts, we didn't receive any entries. This outcome prompted us to consider the potential reasons behind the lack of participation. Research indicates that women tend to hesitate to apply for opportunities unless they meet all the qualifications, while men often apply when they meet only 60%. The requirement for a 30-second pitch may have deterred participation, among other factors. Nevertheless, our commitment to empowering women in mining remains unwavering. Gubhani Exploration is proud to sponsor a company featured in the WiMBIZ directory booklet, highlighting women-owned/led businesses. Additionally, we are sponsoring the Women in Mining Business | WiMBIZ SA Networking Cocktail event at Electra Mining Africa 2024 on September 3, facilitating connections and opportunities for women. We value your insights on the reasons behind the lack of responses and encourage you to share your perspectives in the comments. Thank you for your ongoing support. Let's continue advancing together. #womeninmining #diversity&inclusion #empowerment #GubhaniExploration #Electramining2024 #WiMBIZ

Today we are celebrating INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN IN MINING The International Day of Women in Mining (IDWIM) celebrates women’s perseverance, contributions, talent and spirit on the 15 of June every year. It brings to light to the advancements achieved and the opportunities available for the industry to continue to become sustainable, diverse and inclusive. IDWIM has two primary objectives: - To celebrate the pioneers who paved the way and those we sadly lost, the women currently working in the mining sector and the future ones who will join the mining sector with a yearly global celebration. Everyone, everywhere, is invited. - To be a campaign that calls on industry and individuals to collectively and collaboratively work on actionable initiatives towards a more sustainable, diverse and inclusive mining industry. There are many ways for you, your company or organisation, and the industry at large to get involved. #mining #inernationaldayofwomeninmining #womeninmining #ten_recruitment #ten #tenjobs #10jobs
