As we wrap up our recent competition, Gubhani Exploration reflects on the outcome. Our goal was to provide a platform for a woman-owned business to showcase at the Electra Mining Trade Show. Despite our efforts, we didn't receive any entries. This outcome prompted us to consider the potential reasons behind the lack of participation. Research indicates that women tend to hesitate to apply for opportunities unless they meet all the qualifications, while men often apply when they meet only 60%. The requirement for a 30-second pitch may have deterred participation, among other factors. Nevertheless, our commitment to empowering women in mining remains unwavering. Gubhani Exploration is proud to sponsor a company featured in the WiMBIZ directory booklet, highlighting women-owned/led businesses. Additionally, we are sponsoring the Women in Mining Business | WiMBIZ SA Networking Cocktail event at Electra Mining Africa 2024 on September 3, facilitating connections and opportunities for women. We value your insights on the reasons behind the lack of responses and encourage you to share your perspectives in the comments. Thank you for your ongoing support. Let's continue advancing together. #womeninmining #diversity&inclusion #empowerment #GubhaniExploration #Electramining2024 #WiMBIZ

As we celebrate the International Day of Women in Mining 2024, let's take a moment to consider the significance of this year's theme, 'I am mining and I belong.' We are excited to spotlight IWiM’s Advisory Council member Allison George, who shared: “When I think of ‘I am mining and I belong’, curiosity, intention, and representation are the three words that spring to mind. For me it is about all of this (we are mining and we belong)—I remain curious and intentional in this space. Mining is an exciting field that takes us on a journey through time—the story prior to extraction, the story of the material that has been extracted, or indeed the stories between human beings in relation to politics, socio-economics, trade, environment, collaboration, and conflict. It is closely interwoven with human history since the dawn of time. This has been my journey through the industry, incorporating many facets and enjoying the opportunity to learn and serve.” What does the #IDWIM2024 theme mean to you? We'd love to hear from you! Empowering women in Africa’s mining industry! Discover the thoughts of Carla Clamp of BDO South Africa as she examines the challenges holding women back in the continent’s mining industry and why it is imperative to identify and remove such barriers. “There is a whole lot of untapped potential in women that could be miners that is currently not being assessed or utilised. Given the opportunity, these women could make a huge difference in the industry and can join the ranks of the several women change-makers that have been in the industry.” A the upcoming Investing in African Mining Indaba conference Clamp advised attendees and participants to keep this vital topic in mind throughout each discussion in this year’s agenda: “It is imperative that we maintain the focus of removing the barriers that keep women from shining and reaching their highest potential in an industry that has been historically male-dominated.” Discover the full interview at: https://lnkd.in/eERHV9Hu #MiningIndaba #WomenInMining #WomenEmpowerment #AfricaMining #WomenInBusiness

This article is so interesting, … In my opinion with 20 years of the industry is a patron over the time. I took this extract of the article: “Moreover, the employee-organization relationship has primarily been modelled through a “fit-in or risk being excluded model” rather than valuing the importance of diverse perspectives and experiences that contribute to organizational growth. This can often leave employees not feeling welcome in the mining industry.” In my experience, when diverse teams are built in all aspects, teamwork is generated and listened to at all organizational levels, the results are impressive in many ways; efficiency, productivity, creativity, cost savings, etc. The attraction and retention plan have to be planed for diverse teams, to get the right results

Interesting article about how the mining industry struggles to attract and retain women, citing lack of “sense of belonging” as a key reason. Additionally, “according to a 2021 McKinsey study, women represent an estimated 8-17% of the global mining workforce. In addition to low labour force participation, the drop-off from entry level to executive for females in mining is the most dramatic across all industries studied.” The industry is full of diverse and exciting opportunities (e.g., ESG, technology), and the paradigm needs to shift to attract women and other underrepresented groups to support sustainability. #DEI #belonging #womeninmining #diversitymatters #inclusionmatters
