VNA Employees Give Their Time Miracle League Baseball Game Recently, a group of dedicated employees from the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) volunteered their time and energy to assist at a Miracle League of Southwestern PA game in Cranberry Township. This special event featured a game between adults with special needs who came together to enjoy America's favorite pastime. Thanks to the efforts of Debbie Kaylor, Danielle Hoffman, Kylie Hoffman, Erica Russek, Gayle Hindman, and Suzanne Groove, the volunteers provided essential assistance by guiding players, running base to base for those who needed help, and offering support in various ways. Most importantly, they cheered on the players, fostering an environment of encouragement and excitement. "As a volunteer, it was an honor to be able to assist these wonderful people play a fun game and see just how enthusiastic they are," explained Debbie Kaylor, VNA Director of Marketing and Communications. Featuring about 25 players on each team, the game was designed to maximize participation and fun, playing two innings, ensuring every player had the chance to bat. "It was incredibly rewarding to witness the joy and smiles on the players' faces,” explained Kaylor about helping. “You truly walk away feeling inspired by the resilience and spirit of these amazing athletes."

My pregame speech in Cleveland focused more on the future than any talk I've given to our organization. After launching our first ever Banana Ball Youth Tournament in Cleveland with 900 kids, I knew going into our fourth MLB Stadium, we had a much bigger responsibility to these kids than ever before. Before the game, I wanted to leave the right message to our entire organization about the obligation we had with the next generation of Banana Ball players in the audience. What were they going to see from us? How were we going to make them feel? What fans first moments would we create for them? I believe 100% that these kids could be the future of Banana Ball. What they experienced from us would help shape their views on not only what the Bananas were all about but what Fans First was all about. We owed it to them to show the fun and joy we bring to the game but also the dedication that we bring to the fans. And not just the fans in general, but our focus on one fan at a time, and one kid at a time. As we always say, "Every game is someone's first game," but this night felt even more important because of what it could mean for the future. At the end of the night our goal was to leave Cleveland proud of the experience we provided. I'm proud to say we did that and then some and I'm so grateful for our team for always believing in who we are, what we stand for and delivering on that promise.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY I’ve loved sports since I was a kid, both as a fairly mediocre participant and as a fan. My passion for sports, however, is being sorely tested and may soon flame out. In short, I am disgusted by most of what I see happening around sports at every level, from the pros on down to high schools. Today’s example #1: Chucky Hepburn, a good but not great basketball player for the UW Badgers. Despite his acknowledged high value to his teammates and coach Greg Gard, as well as his failure to achieve the goals of winning the Big 10 championship and a deep run in the NCAA tourney, Hepburn has decided that “loyalty” means nothing and playing for UW apparently won’t get him drafted high enough by the NBA, so he’s headed to Greener Pastureland, i.e., the Transfer Portal. Like so many of today’s collegiate athletes, it’s all about ”me, me, and me” and, of course, the cash payout from NIL coupled with his draft potential into the pros. Well, I say good riddance to Chucky. His selfish attitude is emblematic of far too many of his college-level contemporaries across the country. And then, speaking of NIL (name, image, and likeness) we have example #2: the WIAA is considering allowing high school athletes to benefit from NIL. That’s right, your neighbor Scooter from the local high school basketball team may soon be able to offer his own signature shoe. Of course, if NIL is adopted, instead of taking the bus to school, Scooter will be driving in his new Corvette. Is it just a fond memory of mine, or do you also remember days when people played a sport because they loved it, not because of what their participation could add to their bank account? #sports #basketball #college #university #uw #chuckyhepburn #nil #namelikenessimage #pros #professional #athletes #money #wiaa #highschool #wisconsin #transfer #portal https://lnkd.in/ggUBhAw3

In honor of March Madness, I wanted to express exactly what the sport of basketball has done for not only my kids but also for me as a spectator. Sixteen years of soccer made me an athlete, but I had no idea what to expect when my kids laced up their shoes and stepped onto that court. The game of basketball took hold of me almost immediately; the pace, the excitement, and the absolutely mind-blowing athleticism! If my team isn't playing, I'll watch anyone who is. That is the kind of fan I am. So, what does this have to do with appraising? If you take your joy and compare it side by side with just about anything, you will find similarities, strategies, and eventually the sought-after triumph. My role is to make our team successful, to train them properly, have a concrete game plan, and, as much as possible, come away with a win. And in the event that victory is not attainable, we watch and review life's film and try again!

3 CHALLENGES YOUR SOCCER CLUB IS PROBABLY FACING IN 2024 1. Do you find it difficult to attract and retain volunteers and parent coaches? 2. Are your Rec program experiences inconsistent from team to team or age group to age group based on the level of knowledge or experience of your volunteers directors and parent coaches? 3. Is your Soccer Club struggling with implementing US Soccer's Grassroots Initiative, to provide more game-like/player-centric practices that help offer a better player pathway and experience to your players and families? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you are not alone. In-fact the average soccer organization loses 50% of their volunteers every season. Most of them expressing it was a frustrating and less than enjoyable experience. You may find it valuable to watch this 2 minute video on how we've helped Avon Soccer Club impact these area's to support their goals and success on and off the field.

Check out this exciting news!
BREAKING: Hobey Baker Memorial Award partners with the Columbus Blue Jackets on the Hobey Baker High School Award in Ohio. We are thrilled to join forces with the Blue Jackets organization to build awareness of the High School Character Award in Ohio which honors one player on boys and girls teams who exemplify the characteristics and ideals of Hobey Baker himself. “When John H. McConnell founded the Blue Jackets, he was committed to the team giving back to the community and upholding the Golden Rule. Those are values we carry on to this day. It is an honor to partner with the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation on the Character Award to recognize a high school hockey player who truly embodies those same values,” said Andee Cochren, Sr. Director, Community Development. Each year, we receive positive feedback from coaches, players and parents about the importance of the award and the satisfaction that winners receive from being recognized for embracing the values that the game teaches. These traits include coachability, strength of character, integrity, commitment, teamwork, community building and outstanding sportsmanship.

What do I want to talk about, LinkedIn? Family. This video: https://lnkd.in/g5iQ-88z popped up on my feed this morning, Reed Hastings talking about why we shouldn't consider work family, instead we should consider it as a pro sports team. And I thought about people I have led and people I have worked with. Thought about what I knew about their lives, sometimes things their families didn't know. Considered the influence I had and how I chose to wield it. I felt the trust they gave me, how they looked up to me, and sometimes, how they reviled me. And, trying to empathize with Reed's position, I considered how much more time an NFL quarterback spends with their receiving corps than their partner and children, especially during the season, in order to achieve Reed's level of greatness. And I thought, are we playing some evil trick on ourselves to keep these people at arm's length? We need boundaries of course, but we need boundaries with every single person in our lives, including children, wives, parents, friends, and co-workers. Reed Hastings It isn't my job to protect my family from layoffs or falling off their bike or making mistakes in relationships. It is my job to be honest, communicate transparently, and with respect. It is my job to celebrate the great things and to be there for them during the bad stuff. As you say, it would be awful to fire my sister, but what expectations did I set? Did I lie? Or did I say, "Hey, sis. I am building this amazing company and want you part of it. But bad things might happen. I can't protect you. We are taking this risk together. And I can't promise I won't have to let you go someday, but what I can promise is that I will keep you up to speed as our company grows and shrinks, I will seek your input when I can, and if a bad time comes, I will communicate directly, honestly, and with as much heads up as possibly. And I am going to ask a lot of you. I may tell you things you don't want to hear, we may disagree, but even then I will be transparent, kind, and supportive. So sister, what do you think? If you don't join, that is okay, but if you do, we have a chance of something incredible. " And would I have any problem having that ^^ conversation with one of my family members? Or with one of my employees? I would do it for both. I will treat my team like family because I know how to be honest with them, treat them with respect, and to support them. And I know how to do it in the worst of times and how to do it in the best of times. And I wouldn't do anything different for my family. #leadership #people #humanity #honesty #trust

Happy opening day of “The Masters.”🏌️♂️ ⛳️ what does excellence look like in your craft, leadership role or you career? Over a long period? This is perhaps one of my favorite days of the year for golf fans. Though much like the pristine nature of Augusta greens, the hardwork is masked by the Azaleas.🌺 What I love about golfers is the dedication to their craft. The work ethic, the precision, the speed, the power, and the ability to remain calm under the most intense situations. As a sports fan, I grew up reading about Magic Johnson. He spoke about how his work etchic was foundational to his succes including dribbling a basketball to snow. 🤯 It makes me wonder, what does excellence look like in my craft? Am I committed to excellent for myself and customers? Interesting to me, for all the hypes around a Magic or a Steph, there are 560 players who are also masterful in their craft of basketball. Plainly, we can be impactful beyond our measure, provide for family and customers, without needing to be the one person. There is so much room for 1000s of individuals to build fulfilled lives in the intersection of public sector and technology. Each person having their own super power and not needing to be cookie cutter to a mold, just like golf swings (Jim Furyk anyone? ifykyk 🤣) Be different, pursue excellence and most importantly do it with empathy. A lot of stress and ugliness in the world today — help it shine brighter. Lastly Enjoy “The Masters” today. I know I will.

🌟 Sportsmanship Lead with Compassion: A Ripple Effect of Kindness 🌟 In the midst of a fierce match between the New York Red Bulls and Inter Miami, there was a moment that transcended the boundaries of competition—a moment that showcased the power of one individual to inspire collective action. As rain poured down relentlessly, one player from the New York Red Bulls noticed the discomfort of the children accompanying them. Without hesitation, he removed his own jacket and shielded the youngsters from the elements. His act of compassion sparked something profound. What followed was nothing short of remarkable. One by one, his teammates followed suit, offering their jackets to protect the children from the rain. It was a beautiful display of solidarity and empathy, driven by the simple gesture of one player. This moment serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have. By leading with kindness and compassion, we have the ability to inspire others to do the same. In a world often defined by division, the actions of this player and his teammates exemplify the beauty of coming together for the greater good. Let us take inspiration from their example and strive to be the catalysts for positive change in our own communities. Because when we lead with compassion, we not only uplift those around us but also create a ripple effect of kindness that can touch hearts and transform lives. #BeTheLight ✨
