October is Emotional Intelligence Awareness Month At Lutheran SeniorLife, Emotional Intelligence (EI) is crucial to building a strong, compassionate community. EI is more than a skill; it’s the foundation of how we interact and care for one another. Emotional Intelligence helps us understand and manage our own emotions while also empathizing with the feelings of others . These simple actions, when practiced with Emotional Intelligence, can make a significant impact on our community. Clear communication and empathy towards colleagues and residents alike build a supportive, harmonious community where everyone can thrive. Together, we can create a culture of understanding and collaboration. #EmotionalIntelligence #EIAwareness #EmpathyAtWork #InclusiveWorkplace

At Passavant Community, we know that pets are more than companions—they're family. Recently, our residents brought their beloved pets to a special Blessing of the Animals led by Pastor Freda Snyder. This heartwarming event was held in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. In keeping with St. Francis’ legacy, many churches offer animal blessings in October, and we’re thrilled to have embraced this tradition right here in our pet-friendly community. The joy and love shared between our residents and their furry friends remind us just how special the bond between humans and animals truly is. At Passavant Community, pets are always welcome—and their presence only adds to the warmth and connection that makes our community feel like home.

After 15 years of dedicated service in Passavant Community's HR department, Diane Grinder is stepping into retirement with a lifetime of memories. "When I first started, so much was different, especially on the legal side," she says, reflecting on the evolution of her work. But one thing never changed: the people. "The employees, they’re what make this place extraordinary." Diane came to Passavant because it was local for her, but stayed because she found purpose in the work. “It became more than a job. I found a calling to serve,” she says. Now, as she prepares to relocate to North Carolina, Diane looks forward to a well-earned retirement filled with travel and new adventures, with dreams of exploring Australia or Spain. As she reflects on her career at Passavant, Diane leaves with a sense of gratitude and fulfillment, summing up her career simply; “It’s been rewarding and special.”

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to a disease that impacts 1 in 8 women in the U.S. over their lifetime. While breast cancer predominantly affects women, it’s important to remember that men are also at risk, with approximately 1 in 833 men diagnosed in their lifetime. Early detection through regular screenings can lower the risk of death by 25-30% for women over 50, making it one of the most crucial tools in the fight against breast cancer for all. At Lutheran SeniorLife, we are committed to spreading awareness and emphasizing the life-saving role of early intervention. We stand with those who have faced breast cancer, whose stories remind us of the strength found in community and the power of support. If you or someone you love is navigating this journey, please know you are not alone—there is hope, there is help, and your story matters. #BreastCancerAwareness #ThinkPink #SupportTheFight #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #PinkTober

The St. John Community team recently participated in the Mars Applefest, a popular local event that draws visitors from near and far. Joining other local churches and non-profit organizations, St. John Community set up an engaging booth that offered both fun activities for kids and valuable information about their residential living and care communities. At the booth, children enjoyed playing the DropZone game, a Plinko-style activity where players dropped a chip down a board filled with pegs to win prizes at the bottom. Along with the fun and games, guest had the opportunity to learn more about the comprehensive services and welcoming atmosphere at St. John Community. Mars Applefest, known for its lively atmosphere, featured plenty of music, family-friendly activities, and delicious treats. St. John Community was proud to be part of this cherished local tradition, connecting with the community in such a meaningful way.
