A FEW LIFE AND CAREER LESSONS I’VE LEARNED FROM WEDDINGS (Part 2) The small things are actually the big things 🏰 I got married in France and I knew that having a week-long celebration abroad could be a big ask for our guests. I wanted to show my appreciation, so I wrote each guest a personalised (of course!) thank you card on their place setting, sharing how much they meant to us and how grateful we were to have them share our special day. We also decorated the table numbers with photos of each guest seated at that table. 🙏 My lesson here?....even though the big event or the job/career may be yours, it wouldn’t be the same without those supporting you and I honestly believe that you can never show too much appreciation and gratitude, and it doesn’t always have to be a general thank you. In our careers, these small, personalised gestures can make a big difference. Taking the time to show and appreciate the contributions, thoughts, support or actions of others surely can lead to more positivity. Whether it’s a heartfelt handwritten note, a shout out in a meeting, or a simple “thank you, here's a coffee” this can really strengthen relationships and boost everyone’s mood. Go on, show your appreciation in a meaningful way….and if it’s personalised and handwritten, even better!!! #LifeLessons #SmallGestures #Appreciation #Gratitude #career #GainLine Rugby Players Association

If you want to be a strong professional in the live event industry (or any industry really), make sure that you are passionate about being a professional. It's easy to put your heart and soul into the events that you love, but can you put your heart and soul into the ones you dislike as well? The reality of it is that if you make a career of it, you're going to have some events you love working, and some are neutral, and you'll also have some you actively dislike personally. If you are doing your job as a professional, there should be no difference in your performance in any of these instances. Although the event you "dislike" is not your thing, it is for the people involved. We need to make sure that every event we do gets our best. Be passionate about working with your team, be passionate about being a pro, be passionate about providing the best service and experience for EVERY event you do. Being strong at what you do when you would rather be somewhere else is the mark of a true pro. Finish the day strong, and disciplined. The tough days are when you grow, when you improve, when you become the best you can be. We all have different potential, different ceilings, different skillsets and different talents. Not everyone reaches their potential. Will you reach yours? Will you be a pro when you don't like today's event? Will you be the best "you" that you can be? It won't be easy. Easy doesn't change you. Easy does not help you grow. Find the tough path, find the course others are avoiding. The worst days help us become the best we can be. Be grateful for those tough days and lessons, you are better because of them, they will help you overcome your next challenge. Go out today and have an amazing day. Grow. Learn, be good to other people. Go mentor someone, go help someone who can do nothing for you. Go help a guest have a better experience. Go beyond what is expected of you. Go do things that no one sees. Do it because it is part of being the best you can be, not because you are looking for a reward. Go pick up that trash that you are walking by. Go be a professional. You will never regret being the best pro you can become. #liveevents #specialevents #venues #aegsev #goldenvoice #aegpresents #dmc #dmo #visitgreaterpalmsprings #empirepoloclub #professionaldevelopment

It's my birthday today and what better way to celebrate better than to give back. If you are a #youngprofessional or just young at heart, these lessons will help you in life, work and business. They have been gamechangers for me and great men and women I know through the years. 1️⃣ Make Jesus the Lord of your life. Do it on time. Do it now. 2️⃣ A great life and career is built by design, not by default. Come off the sidelines of your own life. Stop being a spectator. 3️⃣ Walk with God, the Master Designer. Start on time; it will save you from the tunnel journey that the lives of many have become. 4️⃣A well planned week is longer than a directionless year. There is a lot you can achieve in it. 5️⃣ Don't just set and monitor your goals; set and watch your habits. The quality of your life is hidden in your daily activities. 6️⃣ Your gifts leave a trail. Stop searching for purpose like it's lost; trace your steps back inside and you will find it. 7️⃣ Be purpose-driven. It's the foundation for meaningful accomplishments. 8️⃣ Your career is not a straight line. Take opportunities when they come. 9️⃣ Do what you said you will do. Be a finisher. That's how you build a solid personal brand. 🔟 Never look down on anyone. 1️⃣1️⃣ Plan. Know. Do. Balance each of these in your work. Too much of one without the other will bring your competence into question. 1️⃣2️⃣ Do "too much". Do what others aren't doing; that's how you get what they aren't getting. 1️⃣3️⃣ You are the CEO of your career. You have heard it before, but now act like it. 1️⃣4️⃣ Start your career in a role that provides you with the opportunity to be hands-on. If you can't, create one for yourself. At the beginning, it's about skills. At the middle, it's about management 1️⃣5️⃣ Surround yourself with quality people and be there for the quality people in your life. Do not make this about positions and titles. 1️⃣6️⃣ One wrong association - friend, partner etc - can set you on a downward trajectory for life. Choose your "people" carefully. 1️⃣7️⃣ Don't be afraid to pivot. Do new, hard things. That's how you grow. 1️⃣8️⃣ Understand what is valued at your company and if you don't have it, upskill or start planning your exit. 1️⃣9️⃣ Business is about relationships, especially when you are small. 2️⃣0️⃣ No great thing can be achieved alone. 2️⃣1️⃣ Clarity, focus, consistency, and courage - let these always be in your toolbox. 2️⃣2️⃣ Don't just do great work. Live a great life! ...and because it is #TheBoldYear, here is the bonus lesson: 2️⃣3️⃣ Be bold. Stop playing small. #HappyBirthdaytoMe #TheBOLDYear

#Worklife: Good morning! “Over the years, I’ve given myself a thousand reasons, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement.” Steve Prefontaine, American Long-Distance Runner. He was a runner, committed to his sport, committed to excellence. He passed far too soon. When we are lucky enough to find our “thing” or get so good at something that we commit to it, we have achieved a great win. Finding “our thing” puts us on a path, a track for development, for focusing our time and effort. Many people walk through their careers, picking off job after job, searching for “their thing.” For many, they never do find that thing, but are left to “work” at their career, rather than being in love with something uniquely personal. When the people around us fail to provide cheers or awards for work well done, it’s simply up to us to gather the joy and the satisfaction that finding our thing provides. No matter what, it is up to us to find the joy in the effort, the ups, the downs and the understanding that we have found that thing we wish to do throughout our work life. Own your joy. Appreciate that thing you do. We just may be the lucky ones. Thank you for reading. (these are my words and my opinions only.) #appreciate #focus #learn #develop.

What would I do differently in my career in Live Events if I knew at the beginning what I know now? Honestly, I wouldn’t change much, but here are a few things I might change (and a few things I wouldn’t change). 1. I would have had more self confidence. All I really knew was that I had a good work ethic but I didn’t realize many of my other strengths. 2. I would not have taken myself so seriously. It caused me a lot of stress and I enjoy what we do a lot more when I can laugh at myself (which I do constantly now). 3. I would have put family and friends ahead of work. I was so focused on growing that I missed a lot of important things at home and you never get that time back. I’ll never get another chance to golf with dad. 4. I would have spent more time learning the numbers and finance. It is a business after all. 5. Selling. I would have loved to understand how important Sales is to everything. Service is important of course, but it starts with Sales. And a few things I would not change. 1. I worked in multipurpose venues. This was great and gave me an accelerated learning curve. 2. I worked for a service provider who had a wide variety of clients. I learned about music events, conferences, trade shows, car shows, sporting events, you name it. Again, accelerated learning curve. 3. I had good mentors I learned from. Grateful. (And a few not so good, in many ways, I learned even more from them). 4. Learning from the bottom up. I spent years in a concession stand, in a parking lot, standing a post at a show. I know what service is, I know how to deal with challenging guests, I know what the front line staff deals with every day. You can’t just observe these things, you have to live them. 5. I am glad I never quit in adversity. Live Events is an incredibly rewarding career but it will have more than its share of twists and turns. Stay the course even when that veers from your plan. The unexpected curve is on an obstacle, it is an opportunity. You just need the patience to see it. We don’t get to start at the beginning again, but pause and listen, learn from others, reflect and analyze instead of just steamrolling ahead. You may save yourself a lot of grief. #aegsev #aegpresents #goldenvoice #empirepoloclub #startingagain #lessonslearned

Confidence.. Imagine you are standing on the edge of a diving board, high above the water. Your heart races, and doubts whisper in your ear, but deep inside, a voice says, "You can do this," That is confidence. It is not about being fearless; it is about feeling your fear and diving in anyway. Think of yourself as Debby, who always admired public speakers but dreaded speaking up in meetings. She made the decision to start small by offering to help with menial jobs, discussing ideas with a dependable coworker, and rehearsing her speeches at home. Her confidence began to build slowly. One day, she stood in front of her entire team and gave a presentation with poise and passion. Her journey was not about overcoming fear, but about accepting it and believing in her unique voice. Confidence is your inner cheerleader, believing in your own worth and abilities. It is about taking the risk, believing in yourself, and knowing that even if you fall, you will be able to get back up. So why not go ahead, make that initial move, apply for that Job, do that which you have bben procrastinating due to fear of failure and let your self-assureance guide the way. #linkedin #techworld #opentowork
