🎉 Full house at Wolves today for the Molineux Meets event during Business Week! Thanks to Maria Scullion, Molineux Stadium Conference and Events and Wolves Foundation, with input from Invest Wolverhampton! 🏟️ We had an incredible panel discussion hosted by Wolves Presenter Gemma Frith, focusing on skills for tomorrow’s workforce. 💼 The panel shared valuable insights to help businesses tackle the skills gap and recruit talent. Here are some key takeaways: 🔹 Caoire Blakemore (AF Blakemore & Son Ltd) highlighted their successful 'text to apply' job initiative for young candidates and emphasised providing on-site support for job applications. 🔹 Daniel Degg (City of Wolverhampton College) stressed that collaboration is key, and urged businesses to connect with the college to help shape training programmes. 🔹 Jenny Cannon (University of Wolverhampton) encouraged long-term investment in people, reminding businesses that the more they invest in staff, the more likely they are to retain talent. 🔹 Julie Obada (City of Wolverhampton Council) advised employers to engage with the council for future skills needs and emphasised opportunities like recruiting care leavers and job carving initiatives. 🔹 Councillor Chris Burden opened the session, advocating for collaboration between organisations, businesses, and education to plan for the future of our city's workforce. Transformative Marketing Leader | Consultant + Coach | Speaker 🎤 | Podcast Host | Messaging + Visibility Expert
My Red River College Polytechnic #CreComm students in action: Matthew Frank presenting an excellent analysis on the Bell MTS layoffs last week for our PR in the News segment (every class one student presents). We analyze responses, statements, the timing and context, why it’s newsworthy and if applicable, where it is in the stages of public opinion. From pop culture and celebrity goofs to corporations facing cancel culture (and of course, the occasional bout of GOOD publicity when we can find it!)- it’s one of my favourite parts of class. Zooming out and asking good questions (like why now, or who benefits?) helps us see strategy in action. *Shoutout to Melanie Lee Lockhart, APR - Program Chair - who created this assignment! PS: CreComm is still enrolling for fall 2024. If you have a curious and creative communicator in your network who’s looking for a new challenge, applications are open! #communications #publicrelations #marketing #winnipeg

Join us June 5th & 6th in San Francisco for Plato Elevate 2024 (#1 Engineering Leadership Conference)
It's been a privilege collaborating with Catherine Miller on her talk AND the in-depth article we published today. One of my favorite posts of our substack Why? Because it is incredibly actionable. Let's face it, you know the fundamentals about career ladders. it;s all over the internet, but the success of your ladder lies in the details and how you iterate on edge cases. Cat tackles 2 of those: widely spread challenges with the senior IC path and the unintended impact of career ladder choices. A must read for sure. https://lnkd.in/emDgWVMT
Plato got acquired by Coda to double down on our mission to Spread Engineering excellence; join us June 5th & 6th in San Francisco for Plato Elevate 2024 to know more about the vision
In a 10-year span, she went from IC to CTO, while her company grew to a $2B valuation, and her engineering team from 8 to 400. That’s what I call “climbing the ladder”. And speaking of ladders, the leader I’m talking about knows a thing or two about the topic. I’m thrilled to introduce you to Catherine Miller, CTO at Flatiron Health. She’s now leading engineering in a 2,500-employee company, and mastered the art of creating career ladders during her journey. She’s shared her experience at last Elevate, and made a guide out of it, where you’ll learn about: 🟪 Iterating on the Senior IC Path 🟪 Unintended consequences or word choices in your ladder 🟪 Concrete examples of Flatiron's career ladder 🟪 And a career ladder specific lightning round :) And much more...Info below this post! 👇

Love this article about Let's Detroit in Crain's Detroit Business. Their team is uber focused on helping Michigan's emerging talent make a successful transition from college life to adulting in Detroit. They combine networking opportunities (find colleagues, friends, mentors) with skill building opportunities, and making connections to the community - so these new Detroiters can find their people, see this place as their home, and get a great start to their new careers. These are programs that are strengthening the talent pipeline for Michigan, but also building vibrant communities with engaged residents. And employers are part of this equation - this helps your newer employees with activities for their 5-9 - which helps them balance the energy and attitude you need in their 9-5. By investing in programs like this, you can create a powerful story for why your organization values their long term success. Check out the events page at Let's Detroit and sign up to attend the next one. Talk to their team about the work they are doing, and how you can get involved. Jenny Orletski-Dehne is the person to talk to for all things Let's Detroit. #talentpipeline #emergingtalent #futureleaders #the5to9 #intheD #Detroitbusiness #networking #buildyournetwork #growyourteam
