The Remote vs. In-Person Debate is tiring, y’all. I love the flexibility of working remotely 🏡 (who doesn't?), but brainstorming big ideas virtually can feel...uninspired. That's where in-person collaboration shines! ✨ Here's the key: there's not one “right” answer for every person or project on every single day. Context matters! For: 🤔Brainstorming & Problem-Solving❓ - In-person time can't be beat! (And I love a good retreat!) 📋Individual Tasks & Follow-Ups ✅- Remote and WFH wins for dedicated focus time! Let's ditch the "either/or" and embrace the power of the “both/ and” in CONTEXT! And no one does in-person retreats for school system teams better than USHCA. 😉 #WFH #teamretreat #Flexibility #FutureOfWork #contextmatters

Executive Director of Non-profit law firm serving survivors of DV and children exposed to abuse and neglect. Family law attorney with 18+ years' experience in North Texas and Board Certified in Child Welfare Law by TBLS.
I've learned (more than) a few things about what school boards should and should not be doing during my Fellowship with Leadership ISD. Here are a few of them: School board races are non-partisan. Full stop. Being conservative or not does not matter for the role of a trustee. School boards are to set goals for the superintendent. The superintendent is to then run the district, make staffing decisions, and allocate funding to programs in order to meet the goals as set by the board. The board is not to get involved in the day-to-day running of a district, such as handling performance reviews of administration or teachers. The board should be handling the performance evaluation of the superintendent in meeting the goals the board has established. One of the key roles of a school board is to approve an annual budget consistent with the district's vision. This requires an in-depth evaluation of the current costs, projected costs, and projected funds incoming through taxes. Bond funds are different but certainly no less important. Boards are not to select or approve curriculum, create programming, or manage the school experience for students or their families. If you want to learn more about what school boards should be doing and how you can evaluate the candidates, see my presentation on YouTube, available at: https://lnkd.in/gnwdv9Je

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of Education, a pivotal moment in our nation's history that declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional. As we reflect on the progress made since 1954, we also recognize the ongoing challenges in achieving true educational equity. At Baiza and Associates, we are dedicated to continuing the fight for educational justice through our comprehensive work in leadership and school transformation. We believe that every student deserves access to high-quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our team works closely with schools and districts to implement strategies that foster inclusive, equitable, and high-performing educational environments. Through leadership development, professional learning, and data-driven decision-making, we help educators create systems that support all students in reaching their full potential. As we honor this historic anniversary, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of equality and justice that Brown vs. Board of Education embodies. Together, we can build a brighter future for all students. #EducationEquity #BrownvBoard70 #Leadership #SchoolTransformation #EdLeadership #EquityInEducation #BaizaAndAssociates

So nationally, there have been very public cases reported of governance failures involving school boards, headmasters, principals, school systems, parents and students. Sadly, in my experience, the ones that attract publicity are only ‘the tip of the iceberg’. They don’t reflect the number of governance breakdowns that result in prolonged and significant professional and reputational damage. In my recent article for Education Matrers entitled,Governance Matters I explore the topic and some suggestions to support school leaders and stakeholders. #schoolleadership #schoolimprovement #thebrowncollective #CatholicSchools #IndependentSchools #StateEducation #EducationMatters #SchoolsPlus #AICD

We'd like to thank Crain's Detroit Business for publishing this impactful op-ed on Michigan's #education system written by our President and CEO, Ronald E. Hall, and 42 North Partners, LLC founder, Mike Jandernoa. Both are executive committee members on the Business Leaders for Michigan board. Here's a preview of the editorial: "Our K-12 public education system is not doing right by our kids. The crux of this crisis is unfolding in our own backyards. A new analysis comparing #Michigan public school district performance against peer districts in top-performing states shows that nearly every district isn’t keeping up with the competition. From the Upper Peninsula to the southern corners of the state, and from suburbs to rural communities, Michigan students are trailing their peers. Without a strong educational foundation, Michigan will continue to struggle to grow, and our children will lose out on what we all want most for them — opportunity."
