I help (inter)national nonprofit leaders turbo charge their ability to lead dramatic and useful change.
I regularly wonder whether our sector would do well to not introduce more time-bound organizations. And why we don't have more. (At one point, I co-wrote an academic article about an interesting case - and what we can learn from that, with David Berlan. Send me a DM if this piques your interest) Moreover, we could do better in terms of closing down our organizations -- when the time has come -- in a graceful as well as productive style. Barney Tallack describes that memorably as 'dying well'. This SSIR short article Sunsetting in Style, by Georg von Schnurbein and Alice Hengevoss, describes such a positive approach towards a foundation closing, in style. We do see a few more examples of those, lately: https://buff.ly/3wn8XfX.

The 2024 California Strategic Growth Council Catalyst Conference, hosted in partnership with Milken Institute, Progress in Place: From Power Building to Project Implementation, convened frontline leaders, researchers, funders, and government partners to learn from one another, prioritize areas of future focus, advance projects, and celebrate the transformation already underway. Conference sessions reflected the urgency at which we need to make #place-based #investments that center and support disinvested communities and the speed at which federal and state funds are deployed. The Summary Papers are now posted! Great resource of what is working, where more work is needed, and incredible tools folks have created to help advance work. Assistant Professor of Sustainability & Circular Economy at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences
🎞 What youtube video should anyone watch but that has far too few views?🎞 Yesterday Kate Raworth tipped Maarten Hogenstijn and myself (working in the Master Economische Transformatie) about the beautiful overlap between the 5 deep design principles for businesses to operate in the #donut and the #biomimicry. Both of them are being taught in our M.Sc. program, but so far they were not explicitly interlinked. Janine Benyus very nicely explains how nature actually enacts the 5 principles in practice and what we can learn from it. 😮 But then! I saw it has only 386 views in 9 months time 😟 . I'm sharing it here because it is too inspiring, and too important, to be overlooked. It got me thinking; there must be many more important but overlooked videos like these, right? 📢 So please share: what is a crucial but overlooked video that sheds important light on how to build economies for flourishing societies in balance with nature? Let me know in the comments! *It starts at 12:45 when the important question is asked that set the dialogue in motion. Kate Raworth introducers her 5 principles 23 minutes in, to which Janine responds. Pure gold!

Why I Love Bruce and His Wise Ways! When you share old tales and lobster around the kitchen table in Unama'ki (Cape Breton), no matter how fraught the legal arena you are entering the next few days, you know it is with family (of truth and justice). Family who always speak what is right, will never back down if just, and will always apologise when wrong (or even if right, if someone's feelings has been hurt, then say sorry for their pain). Bruce is such a Man, and Family, as are Ted, Jim, and David et al, who could tell the tale, but understand, that is it best left for the next time we met by the Waters of Bras d’or. You only need to look at his smiling wingman, riding shotgun Folks, and you'll see it come shining through. He writes and plays great music, art, literature, love of life-long learning and self-improvement! He has been serving and giving back since his first days as RCMP in Maple Ridge (Circa 80-81) when he bumped into a few of my Friends from Riverview Rural High School (“RRHS”), or so the story goes. If ever I needed a person of his significant skill to help in many areas, Bruce would be my choice. Add in his willingness to help victims, pro bono, with the process re abuse, assault, etc. all for the greater good, then in my mind, he could use our support with his generous mission (IMHO). If you have any need of a very modestly paid, super value Expert Witness, Trainer, Coach, Mentor, Advisor, Mediator, Investigator (Witnesses, Statements, Independence, Leadership, Ethics, etc.), then I highly recommend Bruce. If you want to be told when you are not right or could “look at it differently” (to use his words) like I did, he always will. His views and loyalty always follow logic, law, ethics, and his considerable experience in cause/effect, not money nor likeability. From what I can see, money for Bruce is simply so he can eat, live, and keep serving others, and if you can use his hired help – please do. His recent announcement re free "Forecnic Statement Capture & Preservation" is linked below. This is wonderful Folks, in the finest tradition of Bench, Bar, and Thin Blue Line. Bravo Zulu Sgt. – makes me proud to call you and David et al Good Friend! Now, one final Piece of Nanna Reid's Pie Plate Puzzle - “No Pursuit is Trivial If just” – Lest We Forget! Best, Kevin https://lnkd.in/g-cG5MDw PS: Can my CBA and L.E.A.F. colleagues take note and see if you can develop a Mentorship Programme for Young Advocates to shadow, learn, then help Bruce (and others) with this critical work? If we start there, the end of the dark tunnel of gender violence will be closer, and we will see more light with each passing full moon. PPS: Thank you for your Service to Kanama'ki, and especially Helping a Caper in Need😊
