Change can be daunting, so it makes sense why the loss of the caffeine addicts' beloved Pret subscription is causing heartbreak across the nation. But, as Head of Generative AI James Calvert tells The Drum, sometimes change is needed. https://lnkd.in/e9C_fWJK

We are familiar with dynamic or surge pricing at Uber. Can AI enabled surge pricing work for Wendy's? Menu changes on-the-fly sounds interesting. Update: Wendy's has backtracked because surge pricing is associated with raising prices, during peak demand. In a clarification statement, Wendy's reinforced the "value" they offer to customers. I believe the real opportunity is in apps and reward programs. Get your personalization optimized for offers: The right offer, for the right person, at the right time. #dynamicpricing #AI #restaurantmarketing

I have to refrain from swearing....but cricky....what a ......show. Let's put it plain and simple: 1. Your communication was horrific 2. Sure, its a board call. But you don't even mention customers once? 3. Tech vendors: Help your clients manage the message 4. What's your reason? Yes you, reading this ;-) Dynamic pricing is not new....neither is generative AI.......

AI can't even get your fast food order right, yet we trust it for important medical decisions, major financial transactions, and control nearly aspect of our lives. Right Chris Surdak? ******************************************************************************* "TikTok is laden with videos of confused customers getting items they never asked for, ranging from nine sweet teas to two pats of butter. “Cream packet? No! I just want a large water and a cup of ice cream. Not a ketchup packet! Oh, my God,” one customer exclaims to the bot in one video—which can be heard asking questions in the background." https://lnkd.in/gbYwr9Zw

AI / ML is here for restaurants, my friends! "In the 58 orders where shoppers interacted with Voice-AI technology, the total service time was reduced by an additional 29 seconds. This suggests that AI has the potential to make the drive-thru experience even faster and more efficient." If you haven't already seen this report from last week it is definitely worth the read, featuring insights from tremendous brands such as #chickfila #wendys #carlsjr #hardees #dunkin and more.

Did you know that soon the price of your burger may fluctuate faster than you can say "cheese?" Wendy's move to introduce AI-driven dynamic pricing, similar to Uber’s #surgepricing, is a wake-up call for consumers everywhere. Sure, #AI can do wonders for making life more efficient, but when it's weaponized for the purpose of extracting the maximum amount of profit from each individual consumer and transaction, we have a problem. The implications here are more significant than simply paying a little extra for your burger. #Technology like AI should be a tool for making life better, not a strategy for companies to inflate their profits at consumers' expense. If we let this slide, what's next? It's easy to see we're not too far off from AI determining prices based on how much it concludes each individual consumer can pay.

Theres a moment that occurs in the lifecycle of all technology where you find yourself saying "Oh, this is a bad idea". For AI - that moment happened yesterday when Wendys is now basing their fast food business model on dynamic pricing based on AI. Rather than make better food ( In-n-out) or make something for everyone at low prices ( Taco Bell), Wendys has gone a third way. https://lnkd.in/gUW5Ven7

The current danger in the field is the "generalizing" the term "AI". Currently (maybe) 1 in 10 things claiming to be AI, can really be considered "AI". This generalizing of the term will cause confusion and fear, versus creating a clear pathway to evolve real AI possibilities.

While every organization is ramping up their AI strategies and adoption, it is interesting to see a giant like McDonald’s put a sensible pause to their AI adoptions. Deploying AI is the opposite of: “if you are not first, you are last”. Building steady for the long term, don't rush building to be trigger happy.

I'm really curious to see if this will really happen. I can't imagine the amount of customer frustration this will cause during peak periods like lunch, and will that surge pricing from the really offset discounts during lag times? Interesting use of AI and analytics but not sure if they've really thought through the customer experience implications. #accelerateinnovation
