Firstly, yes, the Jason Statham of fundraising has returned. Secondly, I’m a double or nothing kind of guy, which is why I’m back for a second helping of The Kids' Cancer Project Lose Your Locks campaign. While there are detriments to going all in all the time - it’s a driver of enthusiasm that comes with a adrenaline of ambition. And while yes, that needs to be kept in check, there’s no more powerful reason to the get adrenaline running than charitable cause. Fundraisers, including anyone an NFP, are among the hardest workers I know, because of what’s at stake, and because being a part of the biggest wins in an industry with endless challenges will bring a sense of pride and achievement perhaps not felt before. That ambition needs to be, for lack of better word, capitalised and invested in. Genuine excitement to change the world for the better is a powerful reasource and perhaps worthy of a budget line. How many people does our charity The Lewis Foundation UK support? It is a question we get asked a lot and was covered in the recent podcast episode with All Things Business UK by Ben Thomas As you will have watched our charity has been collaborating with local business Sol Retail showcasing how businesses can donate end of line/excess/unwanted stock to our charity which can be repurposed and sold via our outlet stores, as a mechanism to fund our work to support cancer patients. When your supporting 17 hospitals across the Midlands area and looking at giving away an average of 2000 care packages a month for free, being able to not only provide these packages but the wide variety of choice we offer requires building our financial sustainability. This avenue has been one way we have been able to do just that ❤️ With hospitals around the UK asking for our support, we can only do this with the financial investment to support this. The development of the surplus stock campaign has been one avenue we can really explore that is helping to support our work, build capacity and grow. 🧠 Today is #WorldMSADay, a crucial time to raise awareness about a disease with a misdiagnosis rate as high as 20%. ⚕️ Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting the central and autonomic nervous systems. It causes movement difficulties, balance and coordination issues, and autonomic dysfunction. The disease progresses rapidly, leading to increased disability and often necessitating walking aids. 👁️ A crucial aspect of #MSA is eye movement dysfunction, caused by degeneration in brainstem structures that control eye movements. Diagnosing MSA is particularly challenging: 🩺 MSA is categorized as an atypical parkinsonian syndrome due to its resemblance to Parkinson's disease. It’s frequently misdiagnosed as Parkinson's or progressive supranuclear palsy, complicating research efforts across all three conditions. 🩺MSA presents in two distinct forms: MSA-P (parkinsonian type) and MSA-C (cerebellar type), each with unique clinical features, progression rates, and treatment responses. These 2 forms are hard to distinguish. New research highlights the potential of eye movement monitoring to revolutionize MSA diagnosis and care. Today I received an email from a previous client letting me know they have established a new charity in the Cancer space and will be looking for fundraising assistance in future. I genuinely wish them well, however do we need more charities and foundations? As someone who works for the NFP world, I am amazed at the duplication of effort, particularly in the administration of such fragmented space. The contradictory point is that the small charities often have a large impact at the grassroots root level. Maybe we need a shared services model that supports small charities and reduces duplication without limiting impact? Any thoughts ? #charities #duplication #consolidation

It’s the dawn of a new day - a DAF Day 🌅 October 10, 2024 will be the first ever national giving day dedicated to Donor Advised Funds 🗓️ And we couldn’t be more excited to bring this initiative out into the world alongside more than 60 partners 🤩 Leading nonprofits, fundraising platforms and Donor Advised Funds are all working together on a single day of DAF activation 💪🏽 The whole sector can leverage this event to: 1️⃣ Increase awareness of DAFs and their value. Using a DAF is proven to increase a donor’s annual giving to organizations they already support by 96%, but only 17% of adults know what DAFs are 🙈 2️⃣ Establish a real DAF fundraising strategy for more nonprofits. 42% of Nonprofits don’t mention DAFs in their marketing at all! Many more are seeking guidance on how to find more DAF donors and track DAF data properly 👀 3️⃣ Activate unprecedented DAF donor engagement and generosity. A charity shop and cancer support centre, coming soon! We are proud to announce that we have completed this week and picked up our keys 🥳. We are looking for companies who want to support and work with the cancer community in London to help us really make an impact with a view to open our doors to the community asap.
