Philip Morris Belgium has now become part of the Linked In conversation. This is an important development as we hope that in time PMB’s posts will open the way for dialogue on the points below: 1. We believe that the success of our transformation, i.e. replacing combustible nicotine products with non-combustible ones for adult consumers who would otherwise continue to smoke, makes financial sense for us and according to science will generate relevant public health gains. 2. Despite Belgium’s EU centrality, and the country’s successful experiments with risk reduction approaches in a number of different areas, authorities’ maintain a prohibitionist tobacco policy. 3. Recent policy decisions, such as banning and or restricting reduced risk products, refusing to proceed according to scientific evidence and increasing taxes, contribute to supporting one of the highest smoking incidences in the EU, feeding a booming illicit cigarette trade and the criminals that control it.
