#gym #design really should be a collaborative effort between the principles, designers and suppliers, where #vision #interiordesign and #formfollowsfunction Just about anyone can line up a bunch of gym equipment into an empty room. But, is the space maximized for safety, functionality and aesthetics? Search for treadmill accident videos online and you’ll understand. When you see people shooting off a running treadmill and out a window to their death, others trapped between a wall and running tread burning away flesh, you will quickly understand. The best results come from flexibility and collaboration. Examples would be window and door placement, space allocated to specific equipment , flooring choices and so many more. TDM has the experience to help. Regardless of how beautiful the material or equipment, it may or may not be a durable option, may be a nightmare to keep clean etc. How many times have I seen a beautiful design end up being destroyed by dropped weights and or uglified by adding black rubber mats to hide damage. This is avoidable, experience matters. TDM has been in business since 1990 and I personally have 27 years experience.

Gym Lighting Design Married To Brand IP: I'm illustrating a counter-argument to my earlier Post that color changing lighting is a poor gym branding strategy because everyone is throwing color changing lighting into their gyms. The default design-mindset goes like this. "I saw color changing lighting in gyms on the Internet so lets do that" says nearly 98% of the fitness industry. The better option is to start with a design-concept that is unique to your brand. This is the MOST important first principal; having a Concept. After you've created your concept blend innovative design finishes, unexpected architectural geometries and savvy color changing lighting fixtures in a "sum-is-greater-than-its-parts-strategy". Your resultant lighting design will be more powerful than you can possibly imagine. (Unless you don't think that's important). In the heart of your outdoor sanctuary stands a symbol of tranquility – your gazebo. More than just an architectural marvel, it's a haven where memories are made, laughter is shared, and the beauty of nature is embraced. To ensure this retreat remains an oasis of serenity, regular maintenance becomes not just a task but a crucial ritual. Here's why dedicating time to maintain your gazebo every six months is a wise investment in outdoor bliss. 1.Weathering the Elements: Outdoor structures face a constant battle against the elements. Rain, sunshine, wind, and even snow – each takes its toll. Biannual maintenance allows for a comprehensive check to identify and address any weather-related wear and tear. From sealing to protective coatings, these measures shield your gazebo against the harsh impact of changing seasons. 2.Preventing Structural Wear: Just like any structure, a gazebo can experience wear and tear over time. Regular inspection every six months allows for the identification of structural issues such as loose bolts, unstable foundations, or deteriorating materials. Addressing these concerns promptly ensures the longevity and stability of your gazebo. 3.Loving Your Lattice: For gazebos with lattice panels, these intricate details add both charm and functionality. Regular maintenance involves inspecting and cleaning lattice panels, preventing the accumulation of dirt, leaves, or other debris. A clean lattice not only enhances the aesthetics but also ensures proper ventilation, preventing mold or mildew growth. 4.Checking for Pests: The great outdoors is home to various critters, some of which may find your gazebo appealing. Biannual maintenance includes a thorough inspection for signs of pests. From termites to wasps, addressing pest-related issues early on prevents damage to the structure and ensures a pest-free retreat. 5.Preserving Aesthetic Appeal: Your gazebo is a visual delight, a focal point in your outdoor landscape. Regular maintenance preserves its aesthetic appeal. This involves cleaning, repainting, or refinishing as needed. A well-maintained gazebo not only stands as a testament to your commitment to outdoor elegance but also becomes a source of pride in your landscape. 6.Ensuring Safety: A gazebo is not just a decorative structure; it's a space where you, your family, and friends gather. Regular maintenance checks ensure that your gazebo remains a safe haven. From stable flooring to secure railings, addressing safety concerns every six months provides peace of mind during every outdoor gathering. 7.Proactive Problem Solving: Regular maintenance is not just about addressing existing issues; it's about being proactive. By inspecting your gazebo biannually, you can identify potential problems before they escalate. Whether it's a small crack in the wood or a loose hinge, addressing these issues early prevents more significant and costly repairs down the line. www.wecanassemble.com

2024 Home Design Trends Everyone is talking about the 2024 Home Design Trends. We all know that they inspire personal and professional growth, right? So, it’s obvious that one of the top home design trends are home Pickleball courts. Pickleball is America’s fastest-growing sport, with the number of people playing pickleball growing 159 percent from 2020 to 2022, according to a CNN article published earlier this year. There are several restaurant chains dedicated to the sport, such as Chicken N Pickle, and cities across the nation are dishing out pickleball courts like hotcakes — Pickleball USA estimated at least 1,560 new pickleball complexes were built in 2022 alone. It’s no secret that Pickleball mania has extended to the luxury real estate sphere, with developers adding pickleball courts to their state-of-the-art wellness centers. “In South Florida, celeb-favorite Reserve Padel is opening a facility giving residents at ONE Park Tower by Turnberry at SoLé Mia access to the community-centric sport, plus the development has private pickleball courts on the property for owners,” real estate development site Monocle shared with Inman. “The Standard Residence [in] Midtown Miami has an indoor pickleball court as part of its slate of amenities.” They added, “On Billionaires’ Row in NYC, a project at 111 West 57th Street, also known as Steinway Tower, has an indoor padel [tennis] court on the 10th-floor wellness center — the building is perfectly centered on Central Park.” The cost of building a standard pickleball court (20” x 44”) can cost at least $10,000, with costs ballooning to nearly $25,000 when you add in costs for proper fencing, lighting, weatherproofing and pickleball equipment. What are some other Home Trends….Watch and see in the next few days… Content Credit: Inman News

At first glance some who follow me might think I'm posting an image of a luxury gym design concept today. In a sense I am. What the gym industry continues to promote as luxury gym design is in fact, the hijacking of boutique design aesthetics taken from the hospitality industry, then dropped into gym environments. There is nothing wrong with the aesthetic....if your building a boutique hotel, restaurant or condominium. The shortcoming is that you're building a gym.... and boutique design telegraphs nothing about a fitness environment. Furthermore 1, there is no Brand IP (Intellectual Property) in boutique hotel design, it simply a collective design trend. Furthermore 2, there is nothing stopping a competitor (with deeper pockets) employing similar boutique design aesthetics from dropping right into your marketplace. This will fall on deaf ears for those indoctrinated into buying into the editorial and hype of boutique luxury gym design promoted across social media platforms. But I do know personally, not everyone is buying into it. So I ask, what do the dissenters know, the ones who are rejecting boutique design in their gyms that the many are missing? You don't have to agree with me, but you do have to make a discerning reflection on the nature of the argument. Stay tuned because we are working on a few "luxury gym brands" that say nothing about boutique design, yet telegraph fitness, and benefit from exponentially better Gym Brand IP. PUMP UP 💪💪💪 In a gym center, effective lighting is crucial for several reasons. Proper lighting enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents and injuries. It also creates an inviting and motivating atmosphere for users. Consider a balance of ambient and task lighting to illuminate workout areas adequately. LEDs with adjustable color temperatures can enhance the overall gym experience by providing flexibility for different activities and moods. Integrating high-end Metsan products in a Mac Gym center, with thoughtful placement, ensures not only premium aesthetics but also optimal visibility. Carefully position the lights to eliminate shadows and highlight key workout zones. This combination of quality fixtures and strategic design enhances the overall ambiance and functionality of the gym space. The City as a Gym. The following project explores a counteractive approach to gym design and aims to reconceptualize the typology of the gym as an integrated, fluid and socially condensing urban infrastructure. Through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates architectural design, urban planning, and social theory, the project draws inspiration from historical precedents such as the Bathing House and the Olympia Palaestra and makes use of innovative strategies to reimagine the gym and its role in contemporary urban environments. Building upon the principles of programmatic layering and spatial fluidity, the project adopts its initial approach from the idea of the Social Condenser – an architectural form informed by Soviet Constructivist theory, whose central premise rests on the belief that architecture (or space) holds the ability to influence social behaviour. In its built form, varying programs and communities of people are intentionally overlapped through circulation to create ‘collision zones’ of interaction, cultivating new codes of behaviour and habits in an effort to create more socially equitable spaces. Following this, the design moves away from singular, compartmentalised spaces in favour of a dispersed, flexible and networked layout, with each site incorporating ideas of proximity, convergence/conflict and mediation as elements within the design. Simply put, an assigned sport is brought in contact with a (potentially) discordant program to foster spontaneous interactions and serendipitous encounters among users. Additionally, daily life scenography and infrastructural interventions are integrated to enhance social condensation within the gymnasium (and by extension the city). By embedding elements of urban life, such as market stalls, community gardens, or cultural performances, within the architectural fabric of the gym, the proposed design seeks to create a vibrant and inclusive environment that accommodates diverse user needs and preferences. By rejecting the monosyllabic spaces of contemporary gyms in favour of a more variegated layout that integrates the scenography of the city as a programmatic element, the ‘City as Gym’ seeks to foster interaction and cross-pollination, bringing sports, people, the city and social activities into proximity on multiple scales: the micro scale of the building anatomy, the local urban environment, and the macro scale of the interconnected sites. Through the architectural design and urban planning strategies, this project aspires to redefine the gymnasium as a catalyst for social cohesion and urban vitality in Amsterdam.
