A few months ago (November 2023), I embarked on an exciting journey to learn a new skill in the tech industry: Game Development. I am more than excited to share that I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the training, made possible through a scholarship program sponsored by SAIL Innovation Lab in collaboration with Gamr (Techstars '23) studio. I am immensely grateful to my incredible tutors, MATTHEW ISIKHUEMEN , my humble boss and mentor, and Hadeeart (Idiat Shiole) a superstar 3D artist. Their dedication and expertise made the learning experience truly exceptional. MATTHEW ISIKHUEMEN guided us through the intricacies of Unreal Engine, empowering us to build immersive game designs. I can hardly contain my excitement to showcase the projects I developed during this intensive 12-week training. Equally, Hadeeart (Idiat Shiole) skillfully instructed us on the utilization of Blender to create captivating assets and characters. Their commitment to our growth ensured that we grasped the fundamentals of the software with ease. I am profoundly grateful to SAIL Innovation Lab for providing this invaluable opportunity and equipping me with the resources needed to excel in game development. This experience has fueled my passion for the industry, and I am eager to continue honing my skills as a game developer. Stay tuned as I share with you all the games I have designed throughout the week. Until then, farewell! #UE5 #UnrealEngine #Gamedevelopers #3DArtist #GameDesign #GameDev #IndieDev #DigitalArt #TechEducation #TechSkills #LearningJourney #CreativeDevelopment #GameArt #ScholarshipProgram #NewSkills #TechTraining

Given what happened with #unity3d this year, it really shook the #gamedev community. It felt like the community was betrayed. So what's next? 🤔 In my professional opinion, the next move is not necessarily to abandon #unity entirely. 🧐 It's still a very feature rich engine and has a ton of supported platforms. Of course like any other engine it has it's quirks, faulty support, missing documentation and so on. But it's still super accessible, runs on a toaster and let's you get started making games in no time. 👍 All that said, what this move from Unity showed #gamedevelopers is that we shouldn't put all of our eggs in one basket. 🥚 Something that we intuitively know, but have kind of forgotten. We need to branch out. To that end, I've included a couple of engines I'm gonna look into below 👇 ⭐#unrealengine - This was to be expected. It's a huge Unity competitor and yet not, because both engines aim for different audiences with some overlap. ⭐#defold - I hear good things about this engine for 2D and some 3D. And engines I'm keeping an eye on for now: ❓ #hazelengine - It seems promising but is still only available through Patreon Support. I'll wait and see. ❓ #godotengine - This might come as a surprise but I'm currently not convinced Godot is the way to go. It's improving over time though so we'll see where it lands. ❓ #stride3d - This engine has promise as a Unity replacement, although development seems to be somewhat slow. 3D only. ❓ #flaxengine - This engine is an interesting mix of Unity, Unreal and Godot. It has a lot of potential, but currently isn't production ready. 3D only. 🌟 Exciting Project Update! 🌟 I am thrilled to share the details of a recent project I worked on at M-Lab, where we developed an engaging and interactive game using Unity. This project was a fantastic learning experience and a great opportunity to collaborate with some amazing individuals. Project Overview: In this game, pumpkins move towards the main character, and players must draw specific shapes on top of the pumpkins to destroy them. The challenge is to complete the shapes within a given time frame to win the game. This mechanic not only makes the game fun but also tests the player’s speed and accuracy. Key Features: Shape Recognition: Implemented advanced shape recognition algorithms to detect and validate player-drawn shapes. Dynamic Gameplay: Designed and developed dynamic gameplay elements to keep players engaged and challenged. Visual Effects: Integrated particle effects to provide visual feedback and enhance the overall user experience. Collaboration: Worked closely with Umaima Hashmi, Zoha Wajahat, and Mahnoor Mehmood to troubleshoot issues and ensure smooth gameplay. Outcome: The game was well-received by peers and instructors, and it significantly enhanced my understanding of game development and interactive design. I am incredibly proud of what we achieved as a team and excited to apply these skills to future projects. A huge thank you to Umaima Hashmi, Zoha Wajahat, and Mahnoor Mehmood for their hard work and collaboration on this project. It was a pleasure working with you all! #Unity #GameDevelopment #Tech #Collaboration #LearningJourney #InteractiveDesign

🌟 Turning Summer into Success! 🌟 At the start of this summer, I found myself in a bit of a slump while my friends were out there exploring new things every day. Their drive inspired me to take on a challenge of my own, so I decided to dive into game development. Today, I’m excited to share that I’ve completed my very first game—a semi-2D ball game built in Unity! 🎮 Why this project? I wanted to challenge myself by combining 2D and 3D elements, creating a unique gameplay experience that blends both dimensions. This project has been a great learning opportunity, allowing me to deepen my skills in Unity, C#, and game design principles. What I've Learned: 🌐 New Skills: From knowing nothing about game development to creating a game with semi-2D mechanics. 🛠️ Technical Growth: Implementing realistic physics and designing levels taught me a lot about creative problem-solving. 🎨 Unique Art Style: Blending minimalistic 2D design with subtle 3D elements to enhance visual appeal. Game Controls: ▶️ Right Arrow: Move right ◀️ Left Arrow: Move left ⬆️ Up Arrow or Space Key: Jump 🅧 X Key: Get a right push 🅩 Z Key: Get a left push ⏸️ Escape Key: Pause the game and open the pause menu Special Thanks: I want to express my gratitude to Sir Azad Chaiwala for establishing https://muft.pk/, where I’ve been learning for free, and to Sir Shah Fahad Ahmed for this amazing course. If you’re looking to learn something new without any cost, I highly recommend checking it out! This journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m thrilled to have something to show for it. It’s never too late to start, and I’m looking forward to what’s next! As I reflect on my journey in game development, I've encountered both rewarding and challenging experiences. Over the past few months, I've been part of a project that has tested my limits in ways I never anticipated 🫧 One of the most significant takeaways from this experience has been the opportunity to dive into new areas of game development. I've learned to work with particle systems, VFX graphs, Shader graphs (even creating textures for cool visual effects), an intensive amount of redesigning documentation, and I even picked up some FMOD — skills I didn't expect to acquire during our final project. These experiences have been invaluable to me, and I'm proud of the progress I've made in these areas, especially since it wasn't something that I was taught but had to pick up at a moments notice 🌱 However, this journey hasn't been without it's difficulties. Working with a diverse team has highlighted the importance of clear communication and mutual respect. Unfortunately, there were times when this alignment was missing, leading to frustration, setbacks and cut content. One of the hardest parts has been dealing with unprofessional behavior. It's been a test of my patience, empathy and my usual quiet demeanor, but I've learned to stand up for myself and address issues head-on; something I would have never been able to do a year ago if I'm being honest. So I'm glad for the difficulties as well as the successes, as they've been helping me not only grow as a designer and a problem solver but also to become someone who speaks up when things were frustrating or uncomfortable. There were many late nights and early mornings, often working until 3am and starting again at 5am, to help my team get ahead when we were behind. This experience has reinforced the importance of adaptability for me. The late nights, so I could learn a new skill or overcome a challenge, and the early mornings to prep for the day and assign tasks based on the progress of the previous days. I also want to highlight the invaluable support of my level designer, Cole Webster. His level-headedness and unwavering support helped me feel grounded and reassured during many challenging moments. He always made me feel like I wasn't going through this alone. I really want to thank him and will always appreciate him as a friend but also as an incredible designer (Seriously he has cool ideas and always delivers!! 💫). As we approach our graduation, I carry with me newfound knowledge and skills that feel rewarding and give me a sense of success and direction. I'm proud of my personal growth and the new skills I've developed. ~~~ And to anyone facing similar challenges, remember that your own personal growth and dedication, are what truly matters. Keep pushing forward, embrace new learning opportunities, and be proud of your achievements; because through the midst of everything, it'll shine through. There's merit there in your hard work and people will see it, so own it! ✨️
