Dear millennials/ youth, this is a letter from your mate, a letter to let you know that dirt is good. And let us all marvel in our dirt like we used to when we were toddlers. I will read this as though I did not write it because everyday, I also need to be reminded, “Dirt is good.”
Ever heard of ,”Mchagua jembe si mkulima?” I reckon you have. But in saying, never thought that you’d have to live it. We are all on a different journey, cliché as it may sound, but it is so true that it became a cliché.
Here are some of the main reasons the youth do not trust the process, and end up looking for quick sources of income. “Pesa Pap”.
The social media platforms don’t make it a joy for anyone in the process. Flashy automobiles, clothes, trips and all of that that money buys. Faces full of glow and smiles that you do not wake up to because the process is one tedious rollercoaster. But believe you me, the socials are platforms for results, not processes, so don’t beat yourself up in the name of flashy living. Live within your means we are always told. These are people who care. And as they say, don’t eat your seeds because you seeing people eat their produce.
Don’t get trapped in relationships and friendships that make you feel less of who you are. Getting into the wrong groups may bend your ways and in the end bend your life permanently. Show me your friends and I’ll show you who you are. Be wise is choosing your friends, and do not stutter when it comes to dropping those you do not feel suite your path. As once was written, its lonely at the top.
Family can build you or destroy you. Do not fold to this pressure. Those that build stick with, those that tend press your growth and your mental wellness dispose. We’ve always been told that blood is thicker than water, truth. But poisonous blood is not for keeps. You might have graduated and still have no employment, do some odd jobs to sustain your being, let nobody ever shove you off your path, because why, that is the process.
Working environments can be tiresome sometimes. Bosses can be a pain. The pay can be a pain. The work given can be a pain. But still, a reminder, that is the process. No one ever said that it would be easy, it would always be roses, because remember, roses have thorns. So lock in that tunnel vision and have that mental fortitude to hang in there till you rich your desired goals.
Ever heard of, Ramesh Babu. He is a barber, a barber who owns more than 400+ cars including BMWs, Jaguars and a Rolls Royce. His son has an even bigger collection he says. A man that took his family savings and embraced his dirt.
Get on that bodaboda, be that intern, build those houses, be that secretary. One day all that you want will come to fruition. And when it does, teach others about the process and never the results.
Maya Angelou once said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
