A staff engineer doesn’t go straight to the solution space but will instead help you focus on the specific needs of your customers. Staff software engineers play a key role in improving your organization. They do this by advocating for the engineering team within the broader organization. They can explain the value of the team’s work, negotiate resources for the team, and help set realistic expectations about what the team can achieve.

Happy to have helped PMV with #duedilligence for Monarch Tractor, happy to read the news!

One of the most profound insights from "Free Range Management" is the emphasis on psychological safety. This concept, backed by our learnings from auditing over 100 startups, shows that the number one trait of high-performing teams is a shared sense of safety in taking risks and being vulnerable. In our remote-first company, it has been crucial to ensure that every team member feels comfortable speaking up, sharing ideas, and admitting mistakes without fear of repercussions. This environment of trust and openness creates true collaboration and innovation. We've seen firsthand how psychological safety can transform a team's dynamics and drive success.

While everyone has an opinion on UX and product features, most people stay away from the sorcery of the back-end and its algorithms. During our technical consultancy assignments, we often see startups with monthly cloud bills of over €10K. While founders shouldn't be hands-on with their software’s infrastructure, it's a bad idea to give the engineers free rein here. Infrastructure is a business decision as much as it is a technical one. It defines the operational cost of your product—and that's more than just the hosting bill. Check out Mike Veerman's newest edition of The Road Less Perfect.
