My favorite tip in this post comes from a VP's career setback: "Try to be in every conversation so you can learn about all aspects of the role" (even if you get passed over for a promotion you think you deserve). #Advancement #Leadership

August is Rotary's Membership Month, and our club's in-person and virtual meetings featured two incredibly inspiring speakers. Barry Gordon, representing Rotary District 7610 and our very own Membership Chair, Mary Williams, delivered motivational presentations that energized our club. Barry Gordon, Past-President of the Rotary Club of Fairfax, Va., Inc. introduced us to the exciting new Rotary Impact Club options, highlighting how they expand service opportunities for members and those wishing to learn more. Mary Williams captivated everyone with an engaging and interactive Zoom meeting and chat that sparked curiosity and excitement, showcasing the numerous volunteer avenues and the areas of focus that drive meaningful change both locally and globally. Joining a Rotary Club offers immense value on both personal and community levels: 1. Service Opportunities: Rotary provides a platform to engage in impactful service projects locally and globally, from addressing hunger and health to promoting education and peace. 2. Networking and Friendship: Rotary clubs are a fantastic way to build meaningful relationships with professionals and community leaders from diverse fields, expanding your personal and professional network. 3. Leadership Development: By participating in club projects, initiatives, and leadership roles, members can grow their leadership and organizational skills while making a positive impact. 4. Global Reach: With over 1.4 million members and growing, Rotary connects members to a vast international network, allowing them to contribute to global efforts and collaborate with people around the world on life-changing initiatives. 5. Personal Growth: The club fosters personal growth through fellowship, mentorship, and opportunities to learn from other leaders, enhancing members' overall development. 6. Sense of Purpose: Rotary’s motto, "Service Above Self," encourages members to make a meaningful difference in their communities and beyond, giving a sense of fulfillment and purpose. Joining a Rotary Club allows you to be part of something bigger, making lasting contributions while growing personally and professionally. I had the privilege of participating in the Nonprofit Fractional Executive Summit hosted by Cindy Wagman and what a fantastic first day it was. This photo, taken by my computer by accident as I was cleaning up after the day, perfectly sums up my enthusiasm. I used all my highlighters and filled a legal pad with notes! I launched my consulting business in 2013, and while it has grown significantly since then, I’m now shifting my focus and offerings. This summit couldn’t have come at a better time. Hearing from thought leaders I admire and learning from their expertise was inspiring (Jess Campbell Rhea Wong Tania Bhattacharyya just to name a few - the entire speaker roster was off the chart awesome!) Key Takeaways: -The future of fractional nonprofit leadership -Showing up as your true self and being confident in your expertise -The importance of having a team -The power of LinkedIn -The uniqueness and affordability of fractional services -How fractional executives are the bridge between strategy and implementation (a core principle of how I approach my client work) -Financial management tips for sustaining a business Most importantly, I loved the emphasis on community connections and networking. If you were in attendance today, let’s connect—I’d love to hear what stood out most to you! #FractionalLeadership #NonprofitConsulting #AuthenticLeadership #ProfessionalDevelopment #BusinessGrowth

Community involvement is more than just doing a good deed - it can help you with your career growth as well! We know that as a business owner it’s difficult to make time for yourself, let alone the community, but we’re encouraging you to reframe that mindset. Getting involved in the community gives you an opportunity to leverage your skills for the greater good, which not only helps you grow your network, it helps you establish thought leadership too.
