We want them to come back because they are amazing and know your systems, team, clients, patients, and culture. In fact, they helped build it! There are some challenges to returning to work when one has a small child; we make provisions for them. One of the biggest is childcare, and I know there is a 2-year waiting list in some areas! However, one of the greatest things happening is parental care, where the father can also take time off work to raise their children. Times are changing, and we are ensuring that Mikayla can come to our clinic if and when she chooses to. Our profession cannot afford to lose these amazing and highly dedicated vet techs/ nurses. As a nurse practitioner, navigating end-of-life decisions during the holidays brings a unique set of challenges and poignant moments. The festive atmosphere contrasts sharply with the gravity of the situations we often encounter. Families grapple with the delicate balance of cherishing precious moments while making difficult choices for their loved ones. In these moments, my role extends beyond medical expertise to providing emotional support. The holiday season intensifies the emotional weight of decisions, as families wrestle with the timing of interventions and the impact on shared celebrations. Conversations about treatment options become intertwined with discussions about creating meaningful final memories. The challenge is to guide families through this emotional terrain with compassion and sensitivity. The holidays underscore the importance of advance care planning. Encouraging families to engage in these discussions beforehand can alleviate some of the burden when faced with critical decisions.
