Each semester, Texas Department of State Health Services interns and fellows get the chance to meet with a member of the DSHS executive team. This morning they got to chat with Chief State Epidemiologist Dr. Varun Shetty about his public health career path, views on leadership and how we can work together to address the public health challenges facing Texas. It was an inspiring and enlightening conversation - can't wait to look up one day and see these #futureleaders on the other side of this conversation! #experientiallearning #publichealth #publicservice #internships #fellowshipprogram

Insights of Interns: Julia DeAngelis ’24 Major: Business Administration Organization: UWSP Office of Admissions and Recruitment - Stevens Point, Wis. Title: Admissions Intern What I did: I aided in the organization and updating of office procedures. I assisted in the planning and confirmation of events for prospective students. I worked along side professional staff to improve daily operations and programming. What I liked: I enjoyed getting a deeper look into higher education and the role admissions plays in a university. I also really enjoyed the creative aspects of event planning and coordination. Future Dream Job: Still figuring that out! #uwspinterns #sentryschoolinterns

I love getting to be a part of these student's professional development. Tiya Kumar, so glad to have you on the team and I look forward to getting to know you more over the next year. #consultingpsychology #researchlab
We are excited to welcome three new interns to be a part of our Legacy Research Lab for our Fall 2024-25 Internship. Every week our interns contribute to services for clients. They continually explore aspects of #multiculturalcompetence, #leadership, #resilience, and #occupationalthriving. They conduct reviews of literature, collect and analyze data, contribute to social-scientific writing, and develop survey assessments. Although our interns are the behind the scenes, they are truly an invaluable asset to our work at Legacy Consulting & Research Group. To get us started, we would like to introduce, Tiya Kumar. Welcome to the team! Tiya is currently a student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Brain & Cognitive Science with a minor in Computer Science. Tiya's interests reside in programming, language, and data analysis. We are so glad to have you and look forward to the work ahead.

Ahead of the #SummitOfTheFuture, I joined 55 other youth experts to contribute to NORRAG on "Meaningful Youth Engagement: Time to Deliver". In this piece titled; Why Representation Matters, Matteo De Simone and I attempt to explain the protracted systemic imbalance in UN internships that have kept the already underrepresented group out of opportunities. For the Fair Internship Initiative , meaningful engagement means making UN internships quality, accessible, and PAID. This has the potential of drastically addressing inequalities—protecting economically disadvantaged families in the global south from poverty and beaming hope to the next generation of leaders with just one opportunity. Understanding the interconnectedness of income disparity at the family levels and youth development made me join FII to advocate for internship reform even as a child rights expert by practice. Today, I'm pleased to have co-authored with Matteo De Simone, the co-founder of Fair Internship Initiative and I thank the Ban Ki-moon Foundation, Global Partnership for Education and Learning Planet Institute for amplifying our voices.
