Excellent points, Val. We who saw 9/11 terrorist acts will never forget the loss to so many families. It seems today, the principle of “see something, say something” lost its impact. When Ivy League and other students, potentially funded by foreign terrorists and career protesters, waved Hamas and ISIS flags, vandalized monuments, and intimidated Jewish and other students, it appears that speaking up no longer makes a difference. Many colleges fail to address severe antisemitic actions, while minor infractions against other groups often result in expulsion. Is it 1939 Germany or 2024 America? I have to ask myself seeing so many posts rightfully, honestly recognize our terrible losses on 9/11... but I haven't seen mention here or on the news of who did it and why. And now similar terror groups are here, loud, proud, and popularly accepted by faculty and students more than ever before. Let's not forget 9/11--and who and why they slaughtered innocents. And we can't afford to forget that terroristic goal hasn't diminished, as daily evidence indicates.

The approaching anniversary of October 7th brings a solemn reminder of the ongoing pain and loss experienced by the global community. The reverberations of that day continue to bring more communities and people into an expanding conflict. As we know from the Peacemakers in Action Network, even in the midst of war, there are people and organizations in active conflict zones that continue their work to foster lasting peace and dialogue across differences. They rarely make headlines, but their works for peace ring loud, and Tanenbaum amplifies their call. Below are resources to foster respect across communities and support each other in times of crisis. While the future is uncertain, we know there are people and organizations who hold a vision for communities of mutual respect. Together, we can, and we must see beyond conflict to create the conditions for a collective and lasting peace. Today is National Truth and Reconciliation Day, a day for reflection and understanding. It’s an opportunity to come together and support healing and reconciliation, as well as learn about and celebrate First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The Southern Chiefs' Organization (SCO) has put together a list of events that are happening in and around Winnipeg. The America the Beautiful for All Coalition reflects the diversity of America and centers the voices of people of color working to conserve 30% of lands, waters, and oceans by 2030. In 2024, this coalition will continue to motivate urgent action by the Biden Administration, Congress and other decision-makers in support of the coalition’s twin goals: 1) Conserving at least 30% of land, water, and ocean by 2030; and 2) Implementing a Justice40 metric for the America the Beautiful Initiative to ensure at least 40% of investments are made in communities of color and frontline communities that have historically seen little to no investment in conservation and equitable access to nature. https://zurl.co/fUfF
