Article by myself and Maarit Mäkelä published in the Research in Arts and Education Journal. "This practice-led research article explores how post-humanist and eco-feminist perspectives of entanglement and relationality challenge human exceptionalism as a basis for making architecture in the process of the Alusta research pavilion. Multisensory spatial experience, material circulation and more-than-human temporalities are explored through building a temporary pavilion for multispecies encounters in an urban museum setting. Reflecting on the project, an architectural space is understood as a continuous process of becoming enacted by various human and nonhuman forces instead of as a stable object with a sole human author. Architecture is reimagined as part of the web of care sustaining all life." https://lnkd.in/dq9VY64N

"If humans are imperfect beings, the architecture we make should reflect that imperfection, those details, those vestiges of irregularities that give it character and turn it into a craft." Ángel Bolaños Méndez, alumnus of the course in Architecture for Humanity, had the opportunity to interview José Selgas and Lucia Cano, founders of selgascano, architectural office based in Madrid. ✏️Read the article on the Students’ Blog: https://lnkd.in/dE7v5z_N #yac #yacademy #studentsblog

Did you know that housing in Mexico is a fundamental right, enshrined in the constitution? It is therefore the responsibility of the state to ensure that every citizen has adequate and decent housing. But what exactly does “adequate” mean? Architect Tatiana Bilbao addresses this very question. She places people at the centre, integrates the social perspective into the discourse and sees the role of architecture among other things as democratising beauty. We met her and spoke to her about her work, architecture, structures in space, the symbolic dimension of light and the metropolis of Mexico City. Get to know more about her here or read the article entitled “Social Perspective” in our new magazine F_03. Parents Alliance for Inclusion. Executive Facilitator, CEO, and Chair. Advocate for parents of neurodivergent and disabled children at international schools.
It’s for 2025, yet hope to see innovative #InclusiveArchitecture well represented in 2025 in Venice. I believe “intelligent solutions” are inclusive and welcoming to all. Text in picture: #IntelliGens is the title of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, in Venice from 10 May to 23 November 2025. President Pietrangelo Buttafuoco and Curator Carlo Ratti announced the theme of the #BiennaleArchitettura2025 today at Ca' Giustinian. The Curator declared: "The Exhibition will search for a path forward, proposing that intelligent solutions to pressing problems can take many forms. It will present a collection of design proposals and many other experiments, exploring a definition of 'intelligence' as an ability to adapt to the environment with limited resources, knowledge, or power. Objects, buildings, and urban plans will be arranged along the axis of a multiple and widespread intelligence – organized as natural, artificial, collective, and combinations of the three. While some ideas are destined to fail, others may point us toward redemption". The sections, the four methodological pillars, the common prompt addressed by the Curator to the National Participations: find out more in the news! BEHIND THE FORMS X SPATIAL METAPHOR North Gallery @northgalleryscut , Guangzhou, China 09/18 - 10/20 2023 Part II | METAPHOR Such creative explorations emphasizing spatiality without relying on materiality are aimed at unfolding the logical dimensions, as well as the diversity of forms in representations and expressions behind architecture. At the same time, the exhibition presents a certain juxtaposition and complementarity of spatial metaphors and pure abstract art forms, ultimately hoping to lead the focus on the complexity of subjective variety embedded within architecture as a medium of spatial thinking, and the possibilities that the self-iteration of its disciplinary structure could potentially motivate certain creative thinking, perhaps also, to act as an unformed, fault-tolerant, open dialogue that in urgent need of supplement and improvement, attempting to broaden certain fixed, stiff boundaries. #JXYStudio #culture #art #architecture #exhibition #labyrinth https://lnkd.in/gQzQqbPZ

Ever consider what architecture and building design might look like when informed by planetary boundaries? A cool little exhibit put on by the Royal Danish Academy explores how the architecture and design of the future can co-exist with a balanced planet. The focal point of the 'Planetary Boundaries – Rethinking Architecture and Design' exhibition is to perceive the world from a fresh perspective, seeking an approach to architecture and design disciplines that revolves around planetary well-being and the state of the global environment. This exhibition, which is free of charge, allows users to experience 25 selected projects which – from an academic architectural or design perspective – ponder the potential for innovative design, building materials and types of dwellings with wide-ranging aesthetics – but a tiny planetary footprint. Each of the 25 projects exhibited considers one or more of the nine planetary boundary parameters. So, if you happen to be in Copenhagen sometime before April 5th, you might want to give it a look-see! BEHIND THE FORMS X SPATIAL METAPHOR North Gallery @northgalleryscut, Guangzhou, China 09/18 - 10/20 2023 Part I | SPATIAL Under such a trend, architecture is often recognized and discussed solely as man-made materials, while its seemingly non-natural features in contrast to the external world are standardized and mechanized, leading to a tendency where the study of relations between architecture and the environment are quantified in terms of regulations, hierarchies, and systems. Thus in the context today where the various doctrines and ideologies are gradually being dissolved and abandoned, the so-called ideal forms directed by certain commoditized and stylized design thinking are gradually emerging, potentially dominating the architectural discourse in almost the entire macro era in terms of materials and technologies. #JXYStudio #culture #art #architecture #exhibition https://lnkd.in/g_3dtgFd

The line "In the world keep moving, the nomad is standing still" from "Atlas of Novel Tectonics" by Reiser + Umemoto reflects the broader themes discussed in the book. The idea of the nomad standing still while the world moves suggests a paradox of stability within constant motion. This metaphor ties into architectural and philosophical concepts explored in the book, such as how structures, spaces, and forms can embody both movement and stasis, responding to the dynamic nature of the world around them. In "Atlas of Novel Tectonics," Reiser and Umemoto challenge traditional architecture by proposing that buildings and structures should reflect the complexities and fluidity of modern life, much like the nomad who, though seemingly static, is always part of a larger dynamic system. This can be seen as a commentary on how architecture can maintain its core identity while adapting to external changes and forces.
