Did you know that housing in Mexico is a fundamental right, enshrined in the constitution? It is therefore the responsibility of the state to ensure that every citizen has adequate and decent housing. But what exactly does “adequate” mean? Architect Tatiana Bilbao addresses this very question. She places people at the centre, integrates the social perspective into the discourse and sees the role of architecture among other things as democratising beauty. We met her and spoke to her about her work, architecture, structures in space, the symbolic dimension of light and the metropolis of Mexico City. It’s for 2025, yet hope to see innovative #InclusiveArchitecture well represented in 2025 in Venice. I believe “intelligent solutions” are inclusive and welcoming to all. Text in picture: #IntelliGens is the title of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, in Venice from 10 May to 23 November 2025. President Pietrangelo Buttafuoco and Curator Carlo Ratti announced the theme of the #BiennaleArchitettura2025 today at Ca' Giustinian. The Curator declared: "The Exhibition will search for a path forward, proposing that intelligent solutions to pressing problems can take many forms. It will present a collection of design proposals and many other experiments, exploring a definition of 'intelligence' as an ability to adapt to the environment with limited resources, knowledge, or power. Objects, buildings, and urban plans will be arranged along the axis of a multiple and widespread intelligence – organized as natural, artificial, collective, and combinations of the three. While some ideas are destined to fail, others may point us toward redemption". Ever consider what architecture and building design might look like when informed by planetary boundaries? A cool little exhibit put on by the Royal Danish Academy explores how the architecture and design of the future can co-exist with a balanced planet. The focal point of the 'Planetary Boundaries – Rethinking Architecture and Design' exhibition is to perceive the world from a fresh perspective, seeking an approach to architecture and design disciplines that revolves around planetary well-being and the state of the global environment. This exhibition, which is free of charge, allows users to experience 25 selected projects which – from an academic architectural or design perspective – ponder the potential for innovative design, building materials and types of dwellings with wide-ranging aesthetics – but a tiny planetary footprint. Each of the 25 projects exhibited considers one or more of the nine planetary boundary parameters.
