"It’s not about keeping up with all the work. It’s about advancing the cause with the most effective work." Asking why should be a constant practice for anyone in any work, let alone the lean and clean streets of nonprofit work. https://lnkd.in/evDyMkd5 "Why are we doing [insert practice, campaign, system, event here]?" Wrong answers only. 🙄 I'll go first. "Because we've always done it this way." "Because it's what donors expect from us." "It's not broken. Why change it?" Comment below with your wrong answer(s). According to the website Days of the Year, today is National Insurance Awareness Day. While it may be a made-up “holiday,” understanding insurance is an important aspect of financial literacy. Our Literacy & Learning Success Centers help our students build basic literacy and the skills necessary for personal financial management, including budgeting, taxes, insurance, and investing. And because educated citizens work, pay taxes and give back to their communities, when you support adult education programs, you are making a sound investment in your community. Invest in your community by giving to the Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon at literacysuccess.org #literacysuccess #adulteducation #literacy #financialliteracy #donate #LancasterPA #LebanonPA

Next on the fiduciary duties list: Duty of Loyalty. Duty of Loyalty means that the board must understand they must act solely in the nonprofit’s interest, avoiding conflicts of interest. And must avoid benefiting personally from any transaction with the nonprofit. Boards should prioritize all decisions that align with the mission and goals of the organization, and disclose any potential conflicts of interest. #DutyOfLoyalty

🌟 Read about my work with the Office for Students! I wrote a blog for the OfS about my experience of being a member of their Disability in Higher Education Advisory Panel. One of the things I love the most about working in policy is having the opportunity to help others see the bigger picture, and the panel is doing just that. The HE sector has a long way to go to be truly inclusive for disabled students - as a panel we have been looking at how the necessary improvements might be achieved. #UnlockingEducation #InclusiveEducation
To coincide with the next Disability in Higher Education Panel meeting, panel member Lucy Merritt has written a blog reflecting on the discussions of the panel so far, and on her role as Education Policy Manager at Thomas Pocklington Trust, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of blind or partially sighted people. Stress reduction, restraint and seclusion I am delighted to partner the Alliance agaisnt Seclusion and Restraint for this web conference. It is an opportunity to understand in an empathic manner the approach to stress management and stress reduction. I will be be speaking about how we can reduce and eliminate restraint by creating arousal regulation and co regulation which is the cornerstone of the low arousal approach.Critical to this is the double empathy approach where we change our behaviour in the first instance. All of the key contributors will focus on reducing unpredictability and chaos for the people we support. #mentalhealth #restraint #seclusion #lowarousal #wellbeing #trauma #schools #autism #adhd
We are delighted to be partnering with the Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint for this event, an organisation whose work in the US campaigning against restrictive practices is inspirational and impactful. The Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint (AASR) is a nonprofit organisation with a community of over 30,000 parents, self-advocates, teachers, professionals, and others working together to influence change in supporting children whose behaviors are often misunderstood. A percentage of your ticket cost will go towards supporting the Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint in their work. Secure your place here: https://lnkd.in/ea985PKD.
