At Landcom, we understand that community engagement and transparency are fundamental to successful development. That’s why we have consulted with residents in Edmondson Park South West Sydney and Mullumbimby Northern Rivers, to gather valuable feedback on our new 100% affordable housing projects. These initiatives are part of our broader goal to create 1,800 affordable homes by 2029, in partnership with the community housing sector. We know that affordable housing can sometimes be misunderstood, leading to community concerns. We believe that proactive, transparent engagement is key to overcoming these misconceptions. By fostering open dialogue, we aim to build trust, understand issues, and shape our development plans to align with community needs. Through authentic community engagement, we aim to inform, involve, and empower residents, fostering neighbourhoods that are not only affordable but also vibrant and sustainable. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which has supported community development initiatives such as economic projects, housing rehabilitation, and the enhancement of community centers. Macomb County Government has been a participant since the program’s inception, receiving approximately $1.8 million annually over the past five years. These grants are targeted to communities with populations under 50,000, allowing for improvements in local amenities like parks, sidewalks, and street lighting. Recent projects in Macomb County funded by the CDBG program include the renovation of Roxana Park in Eastpointe (pictured), upgrades to the Macomb Township Senior Center, and a solar street lighting initiative. Looking ahead, the county plans to pursue additional projects, including street repaving, sidewalk improvements, and more solar street lighting installations, pending continued funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Welcome to day two of the "ABCs of Affordable Housing"! Today, B stands for Block Grants, a vital tool in funding initiatives that support community development and housing affordability. Block grants are large sums of money granted by the federal government to state and local authorities, which they can use at their discretion within certain broad guidelines. Unlike specific-purpose grants, block grants provide recipients with the flexibility to tailor spending to local needs, whether it's revitalizing neighborhoods, improving public facilities, or supporting affordable housing projects. This flexibility allows cities and towns to use funds where they're most needed, often filling gaps that other funding cannot cover. In the context of affordable housing and community development, block grants like the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program play a crucial role. They fund everything from the construction of public housing to community centers and infrastructural improvements, directly impacting the livability and sustainability of communities. These grants are pivotal in providing local governments the resources needed to implement long-term, impactful projects that might otherwise lack funding. Join us tomorrow as we continue to explore key terms in affordable housing. Don’t forget to like, share, and tag your friends to help spread the word about the transformative power of block grants and other important housing initiatives! #AffordableHousing #HousingPolicy #CommunityDevelopment #SocialImpact #HousingCrisis #PolicyChange #AffordableLiving #HousingLaw #ABAForum #AffordableHousingForum #BlockGrants #CDBG

It was an honor to co-facilitate this session with Tia Cintron HMA's Managing Director for Housing Supports and Services. It was a great discussion. Here are a few snippets of actions you can take to advance healthcare and housing: 1) develop shared language; 2) build trust among partners; 3) understand housing is healthcare; 4) employ people who have lived experience/were previously unhoused; 5) Contact Enterprise Community Partners or contact Tia Cintron to advance housing in your community. 6) "think about the most you can do; think about the least you can do; go do something!" Community Land Trusts (CLTs) offer many advantages for community development and housing stability. By separating land ownership from property ownership, CLTs help ensure long-term affordability. This makes housing accessible for low and moderate-income families. Also, this model supports community control and engagement. Residents have a direct say in land use and development decisions, which enhances the responsiveness of housing solutions to community needs. CLTs also contribute to the preservation of open spaces and environmental sustainability. The land is protected from speculative development. Additionally, they help stabilize neighborhoods. CLTs reduce the impact of market volatility and gentrification. This fosters economic resilience and strengthens local communities. This approach not only benefits current residents but also creates a lasting legacy of affordable housing and community stewardship. For a deeper dive into the research and impacts of CLTs, keep reading here: https://lnkd.in/dbD3JTPB #CommunityLandTrusts #AffordableHousing #SustainableDevelopment #CommunityEmpowerment

So excited to share this! How does Abt Global impact real communities? This is a perfect example. The Wyoming Community Development Authority knew they had a problem. A problem that communities in every state are facing - a lack of accessible housing. They knew they needed a plan, one that was guided by science and research, done by a firm they could trust. So it's not a surprise that they chose us at Abt Global. The plan will be finalized in about a month. For now, this is a great article to read about what we learned about Wyoming's housing crisis. #AbtGlobal #Housing #Wyoming #PublicPolicy #HousingPolicy

#SocialImpactHousing is more than just shelter; it's the key to stability for low-income families. With stable housing, they gain access to essentials like food security, safety, and clean clothes—things many take for granted. This stability enables families to focus on education, employment, and building a better future. Investing in social impact housing means making a real difference, ensuring every family has a chance to thrive, not just survive.
