Our CEO Alexander Wendler, CEO Property Council of Australia Mike Zorbas, CEO Community Housing Industry Association Wendy Hayhurst and CEO Solar Victoria Stan Krpan PSM FAICD debated this topic at GBCA’s TRANSFORM conference this week. One of the key takeaways of the broad conversation was that supply chain collaboration and circular economy optimisation are key to driving affordable, sustainable communities at-scale by: 🌱 Delivering clear signals to the market that we’re ready to decarbonise, which helps drive cost reductions through economies of scale and normalising sustainable technologies 🌱 Exposing the market and our suppliers to rapid decarbonisation initiatives 🌱 Circular economy approaches saving us money. Landcom is committed to increased investment in sustainability including trialing new construction and materials approaches. Just this week we broke ground on a Net Zero Demonstration Home at our Panorama development in North Wilton (6 Star Green Star Community). 🌍 Happy United Nations International Day of Happiness! ☀️ The 2024 World Happiness Report is in, and Australia ranks as the 10th happiest country in the world this year. But why is happiness important to measure, and why has it become a UN priority? The United Nations recognises happiness as a fundamental human goal, promoting a more inclusive and balanced approach to development. At Landcom, we're committed to creating sustainable, healthy, and inclusive communities that enhance our residents' wellbeing. 🎭 As part of this mission, we've partnered with The National Theatre for Children to bring special performance tours to support the wellbeing of the young people in our Claymore and Airds communities. Clinical psychologists design the Mind Masters program and align it with the school curriculum to instil mental health, resilience and wellbeing concepts. 👉 Read more about how we're fostering healthy and inclusive places in our 2024 Sustainability Report: https://bit.ly/3FEXI74 🔗 Explore the 2024 World Happiness Report: https://bit.ly/4l3Fyfh #InternationalDayofHappiness #InternationalDayofHappiness #SharingandCaring #SustainableCommunities #WellbeingMatters #Placemaking #CommunityDevelopment #MentalHealthAwareness #UrbanWellbeing

Landcom, in partnership with McDonald Jones Homes, has unveiled designs for a Net Zero Demonstration Home as part of the transformative Panorama development at North Wilton in South-West Sydney. Our CEO Alexander Wendler was joined by Wollondilly Shire Council CEO Ben Taylor, Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould and McDonald Jones Homes CEO Rob Douglas to turn the first sod. The project will deliver a thriving community of 5,600 new homes over the next 20 years. The net zero home is designed to generate more energy than it uses and showcase how sustainable homes can be built at scale. With features like renewable energy technology, sustainable materials, and an 8.7 Star NatHERS rating, this project will help reduce energy costs and emissions while educating people on how to incorporate sustainable, healthy designs for new or existing homes. We’re excited to lead the way in sustainable development and look forward to sharing more as this project progresses. CEO Alexander Wendler participated in a Committee for Sydney panel with other experts to discuss, and then experience, ‘walkable density’. Learn more here:
This week I had the pleasure of participating in the launch of Committee for Sydney's Walkable Density report. During the panel discussion, I shared how Landcom seeks to improve walkability and decrease car dependence when master planning and delivering communities. Sydney needs conviction to move away from car-centred thinking and embrace walkability for healthier, more equitable and sustainable communities. It was great to join Anna Bradley, Executive Director of Cities and Active Transport at Transport for NSW, Annie Tennant, Director of Design and Place at @Placemaking NSW in a conversation moderated by Estelle Grech, Policy Manager, Planning, Committee for Sydney. After the panel, we embarked on an engaging walking tour of the Haymarket area, exploring its walkability and amenities. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gQ_kB4Jh

Our #IWD celebrations continue 🎉💪 Inspiring to hear from our International Women's Day (IWD) guest speaker today, financial planner and founder of SugarMammaTV, Canna Campbell! Canna shared so many powerful financial insights and tips to help boost financial wellbeing, budget better, set savings goals and make your super work harder for you. According to the latest report from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, we know that women in Australia earn $11,204 on average less than men in superannuation and discretionary payments, so Canna's keynote was not only inspiring, but very impactful. Thanks to Canna for taking the time to sign some of her books and to our fantastic People and Culture team for such a valuable and empowering keynote session. 🏘️ More affordable homes are on track for Campbelltown! Landcom's proposal for Macarthur Gardens North could deliver 375 additional homes, lifting the total to just over 1,600 new homes - with 10% dedicated to affordable rental housing. Landcom CEO Alexander Wendler says, “The new community will connect to the wider south west and greater Sydney thanks to its proximity to public transport services and new cycle and walking pathways. This will provide even greater opportunities for people to leave their car at home to travel to and from work and recreational activities.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gMrtYikp #Campbelltown #AffordableHousing #NSWPlanning

At Landcom, we're committed to creating positive change for women, seniors and people with disability through innovative housing solutions. In partnership with Link Wentworth, our Queenscliff development will deliver at least 12 homes (32%) as Affordable Rental Housing for women over 55 who are in housing stress or at risk of homelessness. Why are women over 55 a target group for this project? 🟣 Single women aged 55+ are the fastest growing group experiencing homelessness in Australia. 🟣 The latest Census revealed a 6.6% increase in women over 55 experiencing homelessness, reaching 7,325 individuals. 🟣 40% of single retired women live in poverty, with older women's homelessness increasing by over 30% between recent censuses. 🟣 The gender pay gap contributes to women's financial vulnerability in later life. By providing secure, affordable housing, we're not just offering shelter – we're empowering women and other vulnerable groups to access necessary home care and remain connected to their communities. This International Women's Day, we reaffirm our commitment to addressing gender inequality through thoughtful urban development. The Queenscliff project is a testament to our belief that everyone deserves a safe place to call home, regardless of age or gender. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gtyGYkmX

🏡 Landcom has unveiled the next phase of our visionary plans to transform Edmondson Park, one of Sydney’s fastest growing suburbs. We’ve gained approval of our Concept Plan Modification for the development of 3030 new homes to be built on vacant land north of Edmondson Park Train Station. This seven-fold increase on our original proposal will help address housing affordability delivering more homes supported by transport, jobs, facilities and amenities. The 30-hectare ‘Town Centre North’ site will deliver new retail floor space and feature innovative housing types—including terraces, semi-detached homes, and apartments—catering to various lifestyles and budgets, supported by jobs and amenity. The development will also enhance local infrastructure, creating a walkable community supported by pedestrian and cycle paths with all new homes within 400m of open space. This signals the next phase of Landcom’s long term vision for Edmondson Park to deliver a total of 7100 homes for around 17000 residents by 2029, contributing to the South West Priority Growth Area while supporting sustainable growth with improved transit access and community amenities.
