The management of produced water (treatment, storage, and logistics) is a complex and evolving beast. No one operator or midstream entity can do this alone, and as an industry we need to keep working together to find alternative homes for these large volumes of water. Direct reuse is helping but we're still producing a massive excess of #producedwater that can't keep going into the subsurface. The technologies exist to support beneficial reuse (use of treated produced water outside of the oilfield) but we don't have the regulatory framework to support this new paradigm, at least not in the Delaware and Midland Basins.
