Quality early learning and early childhood development (ECD) opportunities are essential for all children, especially children living in conflict and crisis. Sesame Workshop leveraged its expertise in children's media, and combined it with International Rescue Committee experience in humanitarian relief, to deliver on MacArthur Foundation's and #LEGOFoundations ambitious investments and share valuable and rigorous research findings on education in emergencies. Our success is directly connected to the support of over 100 dedicated local partners - from media outlets to civil society organizations to national ministries - Ahlan Simsim is a model for future programs that will serve children affected by conflict and crisis around the world. https://lnkd.in/emqWXn6W How many did we reach through the initiative? Day 3 of the Times Higher Education Global Sustainable Development Congress has just begun, and I am already so inspired by the first speaker I've heard today, Mandisa Mndela of Stand Your Truth in South Africa. https://lnkd.in/gXZT2X6C I was so moved by her organization's three pillars of Purpose, Vision, and Service and how well the SYT curriculum aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Mndela discussed how people have been "exchanging values for valuables" by chasing expensive paper (degrees from elite institutions) and sacrificing moral standards and human dignity. Here are just a few highlights you’ll find in this year’s report: - Growing Movement: 34% increase in total #BCorps in our region - Economic influence: Our region’s B Corps have a combined revenue of $21BN(AUD) or $23BN (NZD) - Benchmarking Brand Awareness: 18% awareness of #BCorpCertification in Australia and 15% in Aotearoa New Zealand - Increased Media Mentions: 4,700 mentions of B Corp in the media, representing a 41% increase from the previous year - Shaping the Future: 52 B Corps and seven aspiring B Corps from our region contributed to a global consultation on B Lab’s evolving standards - New Ways to Learn: Launch of two online on-demand training courses featuring hours of educational content on the #BCorpMovement CORRECTION: There was a 34% increase in total B Corps in our region from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 compared to previous year. 48 years ago, the Youth of South Africa ignited a flame for better education. Their selfless sacrifice marks a significant turning point in our history. Today, many students still have unequal access to quality, affordable higher education, and the necessary critical skills for the 21st century and beyond. Through the Summit Private Equity Fund, our investments into tertiary education and training make a a meaningful and sustainable contribution to breaking down these barriers. NewBridge Graduate Institute (NGI) is one such investment, currently offering affordable, accredited quality tertiary education and training across 7 campuses, with another 2 campuses opening in 2025. NGI’s Class of 2023 has set some remarkable milestones with an incredible: -      78% success rate for Higher Certificates -      92% success rate for Diplomas -      90% pass rate for Degrees Youth Day is about honouring past sacrifices. Excited to have participated in today's Side Event on the Sidelines of the AfDB 2024 Annual Meetings, themed "Policy Dialogue on Innovative Financing for Tertiary Education in Africa: Revitalizing the Role of the Private Sector." This historic declaration calls for 1️⃣ Acknowledgement that the delivery of Agenda 2063 and its social, economic, and developmental objectives is deeply connected with learning outcomes and that the vision will not be achieved if the learning crisis is not addressed.  2️⃣ Collectively commit to all children reading with comprehension and doing basic mathematics by the age of ten by 2030 as the foundation for future academic success and beyond. 3️⃣ Take action to urgently implement cost-effective evidence-based solutions that can accelerate learning outcomes and be delivered within existing budget resources, supporting internal efficiencies in the face of debt servicing and other fiscal pressures.
