𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 Many people are infected with HPV throughout their lives, often without symptoms. While the body typically clears the infection within a few years, the virus can persist for extended periods, which can lead to cervical cancer. Therefore, it is essential for HPV-positive women to undergo screening for abnormal cell changes. To make the screening more efficient and patient-friendly, we are working with Self-screen B.V. to develop an automated method to detect precursor stadia of cervical cancer based on DNA methylation. By automating the workflow, the procedure can be used for large-scale screenings. But more importantly, the method allows for easy sampling that women can do at home. You can read more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/eM43chra #cervicalcancerawareness #screening #HPV #prevention #GCbiotech #Self-screen

🗓️ Cervical Cancer Awareness: Day 6 One of the most important steps in fighting cervical cancer is regular screening. Early detection through tests like Pap smears and HPV testing allows healthcare providers to identify abnormal changes in cervical cells before they become cancerous. Regular screening can significantly increase the chances of successful treatment if any issues are found. Take responsibility for your health by getting screened, and encourage those around you to do the same. 📅 19th October, 2024 Remember, prevention and early detection are key to protecting yourself and your loved ones! An oncolytic virus is a virus that preferentially infects and kills cancer cells. As the infected cancer cells are destroyed by oncolysis, they release new infectious virus particles or virions to help destroy the remaining tumour. Oncolytic viruses are thought not only to cause direct destruction of the tumour cells, but also to stimulate host anti-tumour immune system responses. Oncolytic viruses also have the ability to affect the tumor micro-environment in multiple ways. An interesting question.
We know the importance of sunscreen in preventing skin cancer. But can any sunscreens cause cancer themselves? Elizabeth Buchbinder, MD, senior physician at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helps address recent safety concerns regarding sunblock by tracing the evolution of sunscreen from classic zinc blockers to modern-day chemical sunscreens. Have a question about cancer risk and prevention? Comment below or email us at communication@dfci.harvard.edu. We'll try to address your question in a future episode.
