Nervous system reset - check! A personal highlight of our recent adventure in gorgeous Rovinj was continually catching littlest E speaking 'Croatian' to himself (making up his own little language!) There is minimal exposure to foreign language in our day-to-day lives so how he lapped up these new sounds and had his eyes and mind wide open was amazing to witness. Biggest E was absorbing the experience in her own way, creating imaginary interiors for boats on A4 computer paper we'd packed in a pink and yellow stripy folder, while eating lasagne by a boat-filled harbour. I honestly believe that visiting new places, no matter how near or far, is so much more than what it might seem on the outside. A change of scenery and a growing awareness of different buildings/landscapes/ people/accents/languages/foods/cultures/daily routines, not only provides space for reset but can give perspective and inspire us in ways we might never fully realise. I remember being on holiday in Greece as a child and meeting an English woman working there as a nanny. I would never have imagined that possible had I not seen it for myself, just to get up and go and work in a different country on your own. And it is exactly what I did when I left university, a decision leading to a beautiful and significant chapter of my life. Maybe I had been inspired by that small encounter all those years earlier... #escapethenorm #inspiringlittleminds #rovinj #feedimagination #outsideyourcomfortzone #adventureswithyou #throughyoureyes #littleadventurers #northcroatia #visitistria #croatia #nervoussystemreset

Sunday insight 💡: I just found and read my 2013 year-end reflection and realized I've been speeding at 200 km/h for the past 10 years (at least). That year alone, I had: ➡️ organized 2 large international events featuring speakers from some of the world's most valuable brands (e.g. Facebook, LEGO, London Olympic Games, The Royal British House) ➡️ worked with Milla Jovovich, The Economist and a couple of government agencies in the Caucasus ➡️ had 2 (small) surgeries ➡️ completed my Master's in Business Admin with a dissertation on attracting & retaining talent ➡️ travelled to 14 countries (started the year in Cambodia and ended it in Myanmar). A couple of things struck me after reading it: ✅ I've been surrounded by exceptional people in both my personal and professional life for a long time, and to say I'm grateful would be an understatement. ✅ no wonder I'm, sometimes, transcendentally tired. 😅 Though I've resisted it for such a long time, consistently journaling/reflecting in writing ✍ is incredibly valuable. It offers us so many insights into all the previous "lives" we may not even fully remember anymore. What have you discovered looking through old journal entries, emails or photos❓

I have a love-hate relationship with Nairobi. Like, that one Ex you've had 15 breakups. The only redeeming bit is the Holy Grail of Meru tribe - Tearoom Bus Terminus. It feels like cultural treason if I do not join my kinsmen in that dingy pub called Muringa. It stinks, man - like they built it atop an open sewer line. What amazes me, though - is the bustling business at Tea Room. I have family here. We get to bond. Like, Anto - he's earned his bread at Tearoom for the last decade, all without a specific job description. On a BAD day, Anto makes over 800 bob daily as a 'Matatu Setter'. What's that? You ask. A Matatu Setter's job description is to 'fill up vehicles' on the waiting bay. Once the next Matatu gets on line, Anto and Co. board - act as passengers. You'll come, see a half-filled Matatu and think you are departing next moment. Except, as one passenger gets in - one Setter gets off. Plus one, minus one. Anto and Co. earns 20/- each per Matatu. Imagine that. If you take the job seriously, report at 5am. You'll be a Setter on more than 80 Matatu's that depart for Meru on SLOW days. Do the math. Peak seasons, Anto works half-day 😂 Man needs a break! That's the beauty of Nairobi. You cannot sleep hungry, especially if you can leave your ego and pride at home. And so we write ✒©️ #storytelling #nairobi #newpost

International leader and strategic innovator with 25 years' experience in fundraising, event creation, and leadership, raised millions for global brands such as University of Oxford, RCA, and English Heritage.
Here's a good one: a rare opportunity to work for an organisation with a global brand, extraordinary content, enormous potential, and huge ambition - but has done very little fundraising in recent years so this really is a blank canvas! The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is the oldest heritage conservation charity in the UK. It cares for the world’s greatest Shakespeare heritage sites and the world’s largest Shakespeare-related museum and archives, a Designated Collection of international importance. Essential experience & skills (with apologies to WS and Hamlet): · noble in reason · infinite in faculties · in form and moving: express and admirable · in action: like an angel · in apprehension: like a god Get in touch if you'd like to find out more.

Happy Valentine's Day! 25 years ago we celebrated in the most unusual way from our former European point of view. What happened? 🚢 Back then Alexandra and I studied English in Auckland, New Zealand 🇳🇿, for a couple of months. My first trip far away from home with a 24h flight time, and our first long trip together. Being welcomed with the friendly hospitality of the kiwis we met, we realised that the lifestyle down under can be quite addictive. Where to spend Valentine's Day far away from home? We decided for a trip to Vanuatu 🇻🇺 – an archipelago of 83 islands in the Pacific ocean. Very exotic! Being used to large countries and small islands in Northern Germany, it was my first touch experiencing strong cyclones instead of light winds, small bananas with a curved angle not regulated by the European Union, and a pickup on a wet canoe instead of a safe limousine. My big learning beyond enjoying holidays: 1. As exotic the country name sounds to us, for the local inhabitants our heritage sounds exotic, too. 2. Island nations are more bound to nature caring about their pristine setting despite being threatened by the arrival of concrete buildings. 3. Western nations can learn how to reduce bureaucracy if we want to compete with the ease of creating new companies in Vanuatu. 4. We are foreigners nearly everywhere. Let's apply a welcoming approach towards other nations appreciating their culture and achievements. I enjoyed hearing the perspective of the locals about Europe but mostly listened to their traditional methods to run the island nation. What did you learn from your exotic trips? #valentinesday #diversity #integrity #humanity

Referrals like this...! All references makes you feel proud and valuable as a worker and as a person, but there are times that your heart is touched. Searching my files found this image....As Marketing/Communication manager, happened to receive an email from a member of the page "Service Stations in Greece", asking for my assistance to their search. This particular page is about preserving memories related to the auto - moto history in Greece digging into archives. So what is best apart from helping a part of your society? Keeping memories alive, structures the future! I would like also to thank them publicly, for expressing their appreciation at that time and even nowadays! As Communication/Marketing professionals or simply as workers we have to keep in mind that we are still members of the society! Keep in mind that the Best Marketing Strategy ever: care! (G.Vaynerchuck) Be Kind! 🙏 Help as much as possible. #csr #marketing #communication #marketingcommunications #communicationmanager #referrals #endorsement #customer_relation #society
