🚀 Key Takeaways from the AAC Conference! 🚀 Here are some of the key takeaways that we took from the AAC conference for your information: 🏡 Federal Housing Plans: - The government plans to build 1.2 million homes to address the housing crisis, but the skills shortage makes this ambitious. One solution is increasing skilled workers via immigration, though this could further strain the housing market. We recently posted more details about this on our website and LinkedIn. 👷 Certifier Mentor Programs: - With many certifiers ageing, the AAC discussed a shift toward mentor programs to support younger certifiers. 🛠️ Building Commissioner Updates: - The current Building Commissioner has made significant industry changes and is leaving soon. The commissioner's office is also launching a defects library to support construction professionals to build industry capability, it will be released 13 June. 🖥️ Planning Portal Issues: - Universal frustration with the Planning Portal! The AAC advocates for better training, reinstating the helpline, introducing a 'not applicable' button, and real-time testing. 📜 New Building Act: - The NSW government committed to creating a new Building Act which utilises plain English. The new Building Act will consolidate and modernise many pieces of legislation, some decades old, scattered throughout the state’s statute books. It’s intended to reduce complexity. The first draft will be out next month. 🔒 Scam Awareness: - Beware of sophisticated scams and phishing attempts. Always use multi-factor authentication and check if your details have been compromised on Have I Been Pwned: https://lnkd.in/e-Qp3_C ⚖️ Certifier Responsibilities: - Many certifiers face disciplinary actions due to competence, diligence, or integrity issues. Advice on responding to investigations was provided. 📋 Certifier Insurance: - Insurance providers highlighted crucial clauses to watch out for in certifier insurance. 🤖 Chat GPT & AI Integration: - A demo of Chat GPT 4o was impressive! It was suggested Chat GPT 4.0 can help certifiers on a daily basis, with regulatory guidance and quick access to building codes, amongst other things. AI experts suggested integrating AI into businesses and creating strategic workforce plans. 📊 Chain of Responsibility: - A preview of an infographic highlighting the chain of responsibility for design and construction was shared. It is intended to create more clarity around the responsible parties in the end-to-end process. Amongst other highlights! It was fantastic catching up, swapping stories, and connecting with fellow industry peers. Big thanks to the AAC, and we're already looking forward to next year's gathering! #AACConference #BuildingCertification #Construction #HousingCrisis #SkillsShortage #FutureCert #AIIntegration #TrainingPrograms #ScamAwareness #NewBuildingAct #CertifierResponsibilities

Thanks Dr Shan Hussain for this powerful speech at LMC conference highlighting the hugely damaging impact of CQC inspections on GP practices. These are not measuring quality, but are a box ticking exercise using questionable parameters resulting in a discredited and unfair single word rating system, that is misleading patients and the public. The inspections are doing more harm than good, demoralising clinicians and staff and affecting their mental health, as well as diverting huge amount of time away from patient care into slavishly spending weeks ticking questionable and excessive bureaucratic tick boxes. These inspections need to stop and be replaced by a meaningful and supportive system focused on genuinely improving quality of care.

Looking forward to presenting at the NAA Convention in March! My spark presentation titled "Beyond Inclusion: Creating Belonging for All Youth in OST Programs" will showcase preliminary findings from a current study my team and I at the Youth and Educator SEL Lab are working on.✨ After school programs play a key role in providing the environment that encourages positive relationships and the development of social-emotional skills, however, staff are often not equipped with the tools and resources they need to provide adequate SEL support to youth. In this spark presentation, we will discuss current research on SEL in after school spaces and the ways youth development practitioners can increase SEL content into all aspects of their after school programs, including not only curriculum but routines, procedures, staff training leading to an increase in sense of belonging for all young people.
Earlier this month, the National AfterSchool Association team met in-person to review the hundreds of session proposals we received for NAA Convention 2025. As we shared last week, the US presidential election occurred right in the middle of this convening, which led us to view our session selections in light of the current political climate of our nation. While this did not cause us to change our choice of selected sessions, we did walk into the room on Wednesday with a renewed sense of purpose — about the importance of community, of Convention, and of the association’s unique ability to platform ideas and initiatives representing diverse perspectives from across the country. Session selection is always an exciting process for those of us at NAA, as we get to not only envision learning tracks that dovetail with our priorities but also gain a deeper understanding of what priorities feel critical to those in the field. In March, NAA25 participants will see many highly-rated sessions from past years but will also have a chance to learn from a number of first-time Convention presenters who are bringing a new perspective to our community. As a team, we are deeply grateful for all NAA members and partners who submitted proposals for NAA25, and we look forward to seeing so many of these sessions come to life in Nashville in March! Are you interested in attending NAA25 as a participant? Consider registering by Dec. 14 to take advantage of our lowest available registration price! https://loom.ly/-8LY9Zw
