Attention fragrance enthusiasts! Have you heard of the Osmothèque? This museum enshrines a treasure trove of relics and documents chronicling the history of perfumery. The exhibits include cabinets of raw materials, bottles from the turn of the twentieth century, and underground vaults containing discontinued historic fragrances. These fragrances are part of the patrimony of classic perfumes, and may be used to rediscover and recreate scents whose once-secret formulas, long since lost, can be reconstructed through analysis of these surviving examples. The museum also preserves ancient documents relating to the composition and manufacture of perfume, including a description of a perfume made for the King of Parthia in ancient Asia Minor, written in the first century by Pliny the Elder. Video component of my work AIDA & CLONES Co for Salon Des Étrangers, 60th Biennale Di Venezia. Salon Des Etrangers is a salon-type exhibition devised for the historic 60th Biennale Di Venezia. Inspired by Albert Camus’s classic The Outsider, this exhibition features works of 100 international artists. Surveyed and directed by Jeffro Dziac, Outsiders Lounge is a late Venetian meeting point for ultra-modern existentialists and surrealists to exhibit, debate, perform and observe dramas of current life. With uniform wall works set at A4 size and a 23 second video, like a set of imaginary cards, this exhibition will highlight the absurd and uncanny times we currently inhabit whilst reflecting on the themes of identity, nostalgia, artifice and strangeness in many different forms and media. My bi-componental work for this exhibition continues a series of reflections on the contemporary challenges we all face and the potential outcomes for our future. The artwork mirrors the creeping homogeneity that threatens individuality — where people, once driven by distinct desires, passions, and flaws, now turn to AI at every juncture, becoming mere replicas of one another. The piece poses a crucial question: Will we passively succumb to the absurdity of this situation, walking toward the death of human agency and creativity? Or will we intentionally choose to resist it and preserve our essence as human beings? After 12 years of waiting, Metakaku(R), the pearl identification technology that was innovated by me, has finally opened an entirely chapter during a very special time of the year, right before the jewelry show in Hong Kong. I still remember when the innovation received a very mixed feedback. There are many reasons to support and to go against, expected or unexpected. Nevertheless, I choose the easy path of not to push forward, but to put the technology down and believe that someday this technology will be more accepted and aligned with I believed. This picture shows one of the very first Metakaku(R) pearl that was grown and harvested in Hong Kong back in February 2015. I named it Hello Kitty Pearl and asked a jewelry designer to use 18K white gold and diamond to decorate it. Furthermore, the pearl must not be drilled. When I got the pearls back from GIA Hong Kong office, inside a tiny booth that could barely fit two adults, I felt I was like a new parent. I verified all the pearls that they matched the documented pearl ID numbers mentioned inside the pearl reports. I told the persons who served me that they just witnessed a new beginning in the cultured pearl industry. With Casta C. being the first person hearing the whole story out, I told her Metakaku(R) really changed the roles of the organizations. GS1 became the Births and Deaths Register Office for the Pearls, because Metakaku(R) uses the Serialized Global Trade Item Numbering standard as the Identity Card Number. Congratulations GS1 Hong Kong! GIA (Gemological Institute of America) just became the Health Authority for describing the conditions of my babies... pearls.
