Over the next 21 years, 800 tons of waste will daily generate a remarkable 14 MW of clean power at the Moshi depot. The project innovatively repurposes recycled steam from the Chikli Sewage Treatment Plant, reducing fresh water dependency. This holistic approach not only adheres to the principles of the three Rs but also embraces a circular economy, wherein waste becomes a valuable resource. #Openburning of municipal waste poses a significant threat to the environment and public health—the recent incident in Gazhipur should be a wake-up call. It led to the release of large quantities of black carbon and other hazardous gases, which could cause widespread illness and diseases. #Plasticwaste was also in flames. We have no understanding of long-term impacts. The solution lies in adopting decentralized and scientifically sound waste management practices. The focus should also be on effective plastic waste management. Tight regulations against open burning are equally important. Regulatory and service delivery agencies—PCBs and ULBs—should resolve this serious public health concern. SBM 2.0 may nudge cities to become an open-burning-free #OBFCities by 2026. This is doable, and the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) is committed to supporting urban areas in reaching this milestone. Port of Gangavaram, India, offers 50% waiver on port dues for vessels propelled by environmentally friendly fuels such as #LNG, #ammonia, #hydrogen, or electrical power effective from July 1, 2024. This initiative applies to all vessels equipped with #dualfuel engines that primarily use any of the aforementioned #greenfuels. To avail of the waiver, vessels must present valid certification—such as the International Air Pollution Prevention (IAPP) certificate—that verifies the engine specifications and the type of fuel used. This documentation is required both upon entering and departing the port limits. This World Water Day, we're proud to showcase our commitment to sustainable water management. Through our holistic approach embracing Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Repurpose strategies, we've achieved a remarkable 10% reduction in specific water consumption across our facilities. Harnessing natural resources, our rainwater harvesting systems collected a staggering 16 million litres at our Hosur plant alone in 2023-24, supporting both industrial and domestic needs. Additionally, with a focus on smart wastewater management, an impressive 74% of wastewater is recycled across our facilities, furthering our dedication to responsible resource stewardship. At our Nalagarh plant, innovative solutions have led to zero fresh water usage for toilet flushing, repurposing RO plant rejects and saving a significant 12,000 litres of water daily.   Beyond our operations, @Srinivasan Services Trust (SST), the social arm of TVS Motor Company and Sundaram-Clayton Limited, has been instrumental in driving water conservation efforts in communities. With investments exceeding ₹22 crores, SST has undertaken 369 desilting projects, expanding water storage capacity by over 150 crore litres and benefiting villages in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Collaborating with partners like NABARD, SST has implemented over 145 water projects in regions like Javadhu hills and Thally, significantly enhancing water retention and agricultural resilience while also addressing community needs like access to clean water in places like Venkatagiri, Tirupati District, Andhra Pradesh, transforming lives and fostering sustainability. Venue - Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI) Participation – By invitation   Solid waste management in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim is going through a very challenging phase. According to Swachh Survekshan 2023, this region contributes only 1.93% to India's urban trash. The research also says 85% of garbage is collected, but processing stops at just 16.68%. This means the rest of the waste is going to landfills, waterways, and forests, causing a major environmental issue in the Himalayas, famed for their cultural diversity, ecological richness, and biodiversity.   India's flagship Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0 brought circularity, but it is important to understand what kept the North-East where it is.   Between April 3-5, 2024, CSE will host the Solid Waste and Circular Economy Conclave for India's North-East States to support MoHUA in implementing SBM 2.0.
