Not an ordinary post about work or football from me, however far more important!
‘Ultra White Collar Boxing’
Yesterday an inquest ended into the tragic death of my friend/family member Dominic Chapman who died taking part in this event raising money for charity. There are thousands of people a year that do the same for a great course. What isn’t clear at this point is your good natured intentions are about to be mixed with a cowboy ‘business’ that only care about lining their pockets rather than charitable intentions.
The inquest dug deeper into Ultra White Collar Boxing’s setup and the owner faced questions around things you would find to be very basic in such events.
Risk assessments, Weighing Processes, Training Records, Training Standards, Paper Trails, Documentation etc etc - before somebody even puts on a pair of gloves.
‘Winging It’ is the answer for all the above. Owner Jon Leonard in my opinion was writing all his processes and risk assessment in the inquest when under question and he couldn’t provide or didn’t have it. ‘Yeah something we can add’🤡 How can you allow people to run a dangerous event like that.
Ultra White Collar boxing is unregulated.
However yesterday thankfully, the inquest and most importantly the coroner. Saw through this shoddy set up, and is making PFD recommendations to Ultra White Collar boxing - along with writing to the sports minister to review White Collar Boxing on the whole. This, for friends, family and even the boxers involved that gave evidence. Is the best outcome we could’ve hoped for in the terrible circumstances.
We can’t bring Domo back, however we all feel it’s our duty to warn people and prevent future deaths. If you, or somebody you know is signing up for this event. Please don’t, there are other ways to raise money for charity. If you want to box, use your local club - that will be regulated and have standards in place.
My post won’t go far, I’m sure the media in the coming weeks will do far more. However if it stops one person from taking part, then it’s been worth it.
