Good and bad news in the latest manufacturing employment numbers, but I think that overall it is more good than bad. Good: Reduce turnover and separations. There is more stability in the workforce. Good: More job openings; hopefully this is indicative of manufacturers more optimistic economic outlook for the year, preparing to handle volume. Bad: More job openings / relatively low hiring numbers; some of this is likely continuing impact of a lack of skilled labor – manufacturers have the roles, but can’t find the people with the right skills to fill them. The skilled labor deficit is not going away soon. #manufacturing #supplychain #supplychainrisk #america #jobs #skilledlabor https://lnkd.in/gaFngxRR

Hmmm---a leading indicator. It could mean something but we have had so many off-set indicators over the past several year (yield curve inversion not mention a few) that it may not be a relevant point. Of course it could be though and in this case we would look to be more defensive. A strong financial plan that adjusts both tactically and strategically is a must. Thank you for sharing Charles! Excellent point as always! #finance #markets #indicators #leading #lagging #yieldinversion #disconnect #seasonality #VIX #derivatives #futures #familyoffice #hedgefund

Skills Shortages Still a Concern for UK Economy Though the country’s manufacturing output is growing and companies are hopeful for longer term prosperity, there seems to be a sizeable fly stuck in the ointment - namely access to adequate numbers of trained engineering staff. Make UK’s latest Manufacturing Outlook Survey is very optimistic, stating that business confidence is currently at its highest level in years. Nevertheless, an acute skill sparsity needs to be addressed. Data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) shows that there are currently 64,000 vacancies in the manufacturing sector. Make UK calculates that this is costing the country £6 billion in lost production output. “At long last, manufacturers can see concrete signs of growth and a much better economic outlook ahead. Manufacturing jobs are a cornerstone of today's society. It should come as no surprise that they play a crucial role in economic stability and growth.
