She participated in our recent Atlantic Copper Resource Recovery Open Innovation Challenge, working on-site alongside seasoned professionals. But took in a great presentation by Simon Breeden talking about the need to support the technicians that bring the technology to life and keep the data flowing. Defining ,valuing, and developing the career path of technicians is critical to building and extracting value from the next generation of phenotyping (or any other science or engineering endeavor) . This week, I had the distinct pleasure of engaging with the University of North Dakota's Association of Energy Engineers Student Chapter. During our session, I delved into the nuances of electrification across the Midwest, sharing insights and exploring innovative pathways forward. The energy and curiosity from the group were palpable. Fielding their insightful questions not only underscored the complexity of our journey towards electrification but also highlighted the pivotal role of emerging energy engineers in navigating this landscape. As we look to electrify our buildings and transportation fleet, the challenges are undeniable. Yet, it's the sharp minds and relentless inquiry of groups like the one at the University of North Dakota that reassure me: we are on the right track. Electrification is more than a technical challenge; it's a societal shift, requiring collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to sustainability. The students' enthusiasm and depth of questioning were not just refreshing; they were indicative of the capable hands in which we leave our future. I had the privilege of attending an incredibly informative session: "Education, Industry and Economy: Funding the Growth of the Industry's Bench Strength to Secure the Future Energy Workforce." It was an enlightening experience, and I'm excited to share some key takeaways. The Energy Revolution: The event featured a highly experienced panel of industry experts who shared their insights on the evolving energy landscape. They discussed how the energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation, with renewable energy sources, sustainability, and innovation at the forefront. Bridging the Gap: One of the key themes was the importance of bridging the gap between education and industry. To secure a strong workforce for the future, collaboration between educational institutions and the energy sector is crucial. We must equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in this dynamic field. Investing in Talent: The panel emphasized the need for sustained investment in education and training programs to nurture the next generation of energy professionals. This includes supporting scholarships, internships, and research initiatives that align with the industry's evolving needs. Economic Impact: The discussion also touched on the broader economic impact of a skilled energy workforce.
