The evidence for primary care keeps piling up. Patients are less likely to be readmitted to the hospital after emergency surgery if they have a follow up appointment with their PCP. The value of primary care to patients and payers is demonstrated in so many ways, yet payers and health systems could be doing more to invest in primary care with value-based payment models. #primarycare Adora Moneme https://lnkd.in/gfkAJYpW

Dave Duffy Transforming the way we communicate with patients post-operatively using a personalised video message, intra-operative images and text instructions that patients can access from the comfort of their home using the device they wish. Practical innovation that will improve the quality of communication with our patients. #digitalhealthsolutions #digitalhealthinnovation
🎁 The gift of a simple but effective idea for post-operative care 🎁 Just in time for the gift-giving season, we’re delighted to share an innovative idea from Dave Duffy, Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, who is transforming post-operative follow-up care by using PKB to send personalised video messages to his patients. Easy to implement, he creates a short film briefing the patient on what’s happened, together with his guidance for their post-operative care. At the touch of a button the message is securely sent to them in their PKB health record, available to review whenever they like. An efficient, scalable solution, the results speak for themselves. With more informed and empowered patients there is a significant reduction in the need for follow-up appointments - an estimated 112.5 clinical hours can be saved every year for Mr Duffy, equating to the equivalent of 28 additional theatres. New Research Highlights Medicare’s Undervaluation of Stroke Thrombectomy Recent studies presented at the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS) annual meeting reveal troubling trends in Medicare’s reimbursement for mechanical thrombectomy. Despite the procedure's proven success in saving lives and reducing healthcare costs, Medicare’s reimbursement rates have significantly declined. Key findings include: ➡ Medicare reimbursement averages only 18–22% of the procedure's total cost. ➡ Reimbursements have decreased even as thrombectomy use has nearly tripled from 2016 to 2021. Inadequate reimbursement rates may limit access to this life-saving treatment in certain regions.
