Such good news for #Southaustralia and the world! I know it's a week old now, but not everyone knows about it yet. The Commonwealth Government has signed the first Renewable Energy Transformation Agreement with the Government of South Australia, underwriting at least 1,000 MW of new renewable generation and 400 MW of new storage capacity in South Australia, amongst other things. This bolsters the transition and ensures that South Australia is net 100% renewables sooner, supporting new #hydrogen, #greeniron, #greensteel and #copper ventures. The Government of Ontario is turning the tide on renewable energy with the IESO's procurement announcement of 2,000 megawatts of non-emitting generation, including wind, solar, hydro and bioenergy. Carbon emissions from the electricity grid are increasing quickly, underscoring the need to invest in efficiency and renewable energy, which is now the cheapest form of new power. Exciting news for the UK's offshore wind sector! ORE Catapult’s National Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth, Northumberland, is set to receive £85.6m from UKRI to enhance its wind turbine blade and drive train testing facilities. This investment will support the development of next-gen wind turbines, testing blades up to 150m and drive trains up to 23MW, with future expansion to 180m and 28MW. These advanced facilities will accelerate product development, reduce CO2 emissions by 2.5 million tonnes, and bolster UK supply chains. Additionally, 30 new jobs will be created, and 5 PhDs will be supported annually. Australia is to run its biggest ever tender for renewable energy, seeking 10GW ⚡️of wind and solar☀️ and another 3GW of dispatchable energy ⚡️this year outlined in a new issues paper that spells out the priorities of the expanded Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS). The focus is expected to be particularly on NSW, where especially wind farm approvals have both scarce and slow, making new emission targets harder to achieve. The CIS is a multi-billion dollar underwriting scheme by the Australian Government, aimed at delivering up to 32GW of renewables and dispatchable energy to meet the government’s 2030 target of 82% renewables, which many in the energy sector believes are increasingly unreachable. The CIS is designed to largely derisk investment in renewables through providing government price support, unlocking billions of dollars of capital that has been sitting on the sidelines. However it also means more of a risk transfer to the taxpayer in Australia’s energy transition. #energytransition #renewables

Australia's green energy ambitions face hurdles as the country inches towards its renewable targets. Despite over 180 gigawatts of new projects in the queue, including substantial battery and pumped hydro storage, progress has been slow due to political and infrastructural challenges. South Australia's renewable share decreased to 69.3% due to poor wind conditions and grid constraints. Rooftop solar remains a strong performer, contributing significantly to the grid. Battery storage capacity is expected to quadruple in the next 18 months, enhancing its role in the energy mix. The cost of generation varied, with rooftop solar being the cheapest and diesel generators the most expensive.
