Nikon carves lens expertise into niche in #chipmaking and space Camera maker invests $620m to repurpose optical tech for continued growth Faced with mounting headwinds in #digitalcameras, #Nikon has launched a 100 billion yen ($620 million) #investment spree to redirect expertise in optical products to promising sectors like #space and #semiconductors. Extensive upgrades are underway at Tochigi Nikon, a group manufacturing hub north of #Tokyo. The goal is to create a facility capable of producing all types of #lenses, from those as small as a grain of rice to products for chipmaking equipment, according to Muneaki Tokunari, who became Nikon's president in April. Tochigi Nikon opened in 1961 and has gradually expanded to include roughly more than 10 different buildings. The goal is to consolidate production there by fiscal 2027 to two new buildings with a combined floorspace of about 20,000 sq. meters, more than the total of the existing facilities. 🚀📈 SK hynix Boosts #HBM #Production! 🚀📈 SK hynix is converting part of its #M10 #production line at the #Icheon #semiconductor #plant to produce #high #bandwidth #memory (#HBM) to meet rapidly increasing demand. With a new task force, the conversion includes setting up a 3,300 sqm #clean #room and introducing #new #equipment by early 2025. Due to infrastructure limitations and regulatory constraints, expanding existing facilities is challenging, prompting this strategic move. Industry pressure, particularly from NVIDIA, and a booming #HBM #market projected to hit $30 billion by 2026, necessitate this shift. SK Hynix’s CEO, Kwak Noh-Jung, highlighted that their 2024 HBM capacity is sold out, and 2025 is nearly full. In addition to the #M10 #conversion, SK hynix is planning large-scale expansions, including the new #M15X factory in #Cheongju, #South #Korea, and an #advanced #packaging #facility in Indiana, USA.📊🌐 #SKHynix #HBM #Semiconductors #TechInnovation #AI #NVIDIA #ProductionExpansion #TechNews #MarketLeadership #GlobalGrowth #FutureTech #2024KES

The automotive audio industry is rapidly evolving, driven by key trends such as automation, electrification, software-defined vehicles, and zonal architecture. Some OEMs are shifting from traditional supplier partnerships to more direct collaborations with component and software vendors, leading to enhanced control and innovation in audio solutions. A recent visit to the Audio Foundry at Tymphany’s Bridgend facility highlighted this transformation. The Foundry, equipped with a makerspace, rapid prototyping, testing, and more, serves as a hub for advancing audio technology. Current members, including Analog Devices, CARLAB, Dirac , DSP Concepts, Trèves Group, Tymphany, and Zilltek are pioneering trends like Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems (AVAS), spatial audio, and innovative speaker placements. Secure your places before the early bird rates expire and save upto 700 EUROS per person #MicroLED #MiniLED #Displas #OLED #MicroDisplay #AR #VR #XR #AutomotiveDisplay #SmartWatches #ColorConversion #GaN #Transfer #Interconnects #Manufacturing #Yield #Markets #QD #GaN #Monolithic #HeterogeneousIntegration #AdvancedSemiconductorPackaging Abstract of the Talk: Tight pitch integration of compound semiconductor with advanced node CMOS like in microLED displays requires a full wafer level monolithic approach. Dedicated microLED display fabs are hereby an unlikely solution since older generation fabs used for compound semiconductor (e.g. 4”-6”) do not have the capability and precision while Si-CMOS fabs (e.g. 200mm/300mm) require a very large CAPEX that during the slow AR market ramp up would be under-utilized for several years. Process and tool compatibility to existing CMOS foundries is therefore a must. At pitches below 5um, the CMOS bonding is at the center and cannot be considered as an afterthought of a great LED process. In this presentation we discuss different option for CMOS integration, color generation and how they influence cost effective volume manufacturing."

My #applevisionpro shows up on Friday -- but will I be able to use it? If you didn't know, the Apple Vision Pro comes out of the box, ready to use for people who don't need vision correction. If you require vision correction, you can add ZEISS Optical Inserts (https://lnkd.in/ezkViR9i). To add them, you have to have a current vision prescription handy and answer some quick questions about if you wear glasses, contacts, etc. When ordering, I didn't have a current prescription, so I chose that I was a contacts wearer and was told that I didn't need the inserts. I was playing around with the configuration wizard on the ZEISS site today, and ZEISS Optical Inserts and Apple Vision Pro Light Seal (part of the Vision Pro device) work together. And now I'm wondering if I'll need a new Light Seal since I scanned my face with my glasses on but will be using the Vision Pro with my glasses off. A new Light Seal costs $200 or so, and prescription inserts cost $150 or so, so I'll have to wait for my Vision Pro to arrive to see if it will work for me. If not, the delivery time on Inserts and Light Seals is about three weeks, so my family and friends may enjoy the Vision Pro before I can. I have a friend at Apple, so I'll reach out and see if I might be worrying for nothing. Unfortunately, this is the pain of being an early adopter. ;-) #zeiss #opticalinserts #earlyadopter #apple #spatialcomputing Rene Little Scott Kramer Albert Lee Sam Evans #eti
