Guiding Independent School Leaders in Business Acumen & Leadership | Founder of MoonshotOS | Trained Thousands Over My Career
Here's a quick exercise: after writing the job description for the marcom role, take a moment to read it from a candidate's perspective. Ask yourself, "Would you want to do this job? Does it seem reasonable?" If the answer is no to both, consider potential applicants' reactions. Avoid putting people on the fast track to burnout.
I help K12 schools enroll more students through digital marketing // Founder @ SchneiderB Media #digitalmarketing #SEO #PPC #socialmedia #inboundmarketing #AI
Schools are pretty bad at hiring marketing and communications professionals. I recently saw a job listing for a 'Marketing/Communications Manager' role. They're looking for someone to juggle single-handedly: - Social Media - Digital Ads - SEO - Website Updates - Graphic Design - Copywriter - Chief Photographer - Plus, tracking all these efforts with reports - And wait for it... work some nights and weekends, and be a visible member of the community. I'm embarrassed to share the low salary range. Folks, this isn’t just a job; it's an entire team's workload. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident and only one example of how schools struggle to hire MarCom professionals. Do better. Our industry deserves it, and so do the people who power it.

Communications & PR Consultant with a knack for visual storytelling, content creation & ghostwriting
Recruiters, HR & Talent Aquisition Managers- you are missing the point when hiring your Internal Comms Manager. AND- you're losing out on great talent! Communications Managers/Directors/Associates are fantastic writers, storytellers and oftentimes have a little bit of graphic artistry... to tell YOUR company story, no matter the industry. Let me repeat that....NO MATTER THE INDUSTRY. Comms people are usually generalists who have experience across all different areas. One day I can write about what's happening in government, the next day I'm talking to the water company, and another day maybe a finance or lifestyle story. This is PR, this is Comms, this is your freelance internal or external comms person. I recently applied for this role... About This Role The Internal Communications Lead provides communication support and direction for strategic initiatives and operational topics. This position supports and maintains XXXX's global standards and develops editorial and video content for intranet, publications newsletters, e-boards, presentations and other internal communication channels. This role works closely with members of the XXXX Communications Team and supports communications for both locations. What You’ll Do Develops, directs and executes internal communications plan for the X sites to ensure they are aligned with global narrative, its’ people-focused achievements, People Strategy, company culture/values and other topics to support the company as a great place to work. Prepares content, executes, and facilitates internal communications, such as Town Halls, internal newsletters, video briefs and scripts, and all related messaging; in addition, engages with employees and leaders across the business to determine the appropriate audience, timing, channels, and verbiage for outgoing messages. That's a basic job posting, one that I had 99% experience in. This would be on-site. I reached out to the recruiter, who lives across the country. I asked which of two similar positions seemed like a better fir for me. (I wanted to establish a dialog). Recruiter's answer to me on LI: "It is the same position - we just change title to attract different talent the JD is the same. I reviewed your resume and did not see any Pharma experience If I missed that experience, let me know." ME, thinking out loud..."Pharma! The job description is all about communicating to employees. I'm not going to be conducting experiments." Has anyone else experienced something like this?
